This was a very tough year, none of the birds were very vocal this season.
We were eluded by the Boss bird on several occasion's with his one gobble and run off
routine and the distraction of the neighboring property being logged out. With 36 hours
left in the Ohio season the boy cut loose on this bird as it was on it's way out. I called a
miss because of the 40 yrd shot he made with a full tubed 20ga remy he was using.
Sometimes it is good to be wrong.

That's a good looking bird! That's a pretty darn good shot, for that gun & distance.
Next time, tell the boy to "act like he's happy". LOL!
Camera was giving me trouble and I guess he was tired of waiting. When I loaded the pics later that night this was the only clear one. He's usally a class clown, must get it from his mother .

I've hunted them a few times with my Mossberg 835 3 1/2" mags and #4 shot. Rolls them like a basket ball.
That is a nice bird, how long is the beard and spikes?
This was a Jake, 5" beard and 7/16" spurs. First jake spurs I ever saw that were pointed !
He has a long beard under his belt, but with the season ending with in hours and not
sure what our schedule would be the next day, I told him that morning as we
headed out that he better take the first thing that comes in. And I'm glad I did
because we went back out Sunday and never saw or heard a bird.
