I'm a volunteer leader in my local Boy Scout Troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster and also very active with the Order of the Arrow as Associate Lodge Adviser.

Our son did US Naval Sea Cadets.
Andrew (freerider04 on DWF) was a Sea Cadet for 7 years and did many deployments aboard Navy/Coast Guard vessels/units. He was the Master Chief Petty Officer of his unit, when he enlisted in the Coast Guard they considered that experience to be the equivalent of an Eagle Scout.
He is a Gunners Mate First Class, here's a picture he sent me of "a day at the office"
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I earned Eagle Scout as a youth and joined the Navy .. his rating looks like more fun than mine.

I have a Boy scout and a Cub Scout in the house. The outings and meetings are cool, I am not a leader but might as well be as I am always there helping. The boys plan to make Eagle, time will tell.
P.S. Hey Steve, am I too old to join Coast Guard.

Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow when I was a teenager. Assistant Scoutmaster 30 years ago when my son was little. Not much involvement lately. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!
