I have to agree. I had a neighbor for a while from S.F. she complained all the time about this god awful state. I just politely reminded her California had not fallen into the Pacific yet and she was in 'The Bluegrass' by choice..
She didn't stay to long round here. I guess the fact that the welcome wagon for Shelbyville was made up of bunch of church going ladies, young and old, who were willing to help her get settled and share recipes and like, was just to much kindness.

Yep, that about sums it up
In a recent newspaper article is was reported that the Houston, TX area grew by over 150,000 people between 2013 and 2014. I have seen the effects after moving back from Australia. The real estate market is on fire, it took 2 months for us to find a decent home. This was after making offers on about a dozen houses. The roads are terribly choked with traffic as well.
Now with the price of gasoline so low, there are big cutbacks in the oil and oil services industries, with weekly layoffs throught. It's not looking too pretty either. Estimates are this will be another industry crash like back in the 1980's. It may take 15 years or more for everything to recover.
Expect Dick Cheney and his cronies to trump up another war somewhere in the third world.
