OR, to quote Claire: " Oh, we got both kinds. We got Country AND Western."
I came to C&W later in life, my favorite Sirius/XM channel is Willie's Roadhouse, but I also enjoy more recent stuff.
Anyone want to share Favorites?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well…a lot of the older stuff. I don't care for what's now called C&W. Willie's 'Redheaded Stranger' was an album I liked that was 'newer'. Mostly individual songs going back to the 50's, 60's. One local R&R station used to switch over to Country after midnight back in my youth, so I heard a lot of those. Any song by Patsy Cline. Johnny Cash, Freddy Fender, Waylon, Hank Sr, Mary Robbins just to name a few.
Sniff…..now I wanna go cry in a beer...

Now your talking. My family hates to ride with me. All I listen to is Willie's Roadhouse, even at my computer... It is in my opinion, for all that is worth, the best C&W station created. Porter Wagoner, Buck Owens, Hank Williams, Ernest... the list goes on.
So I am NOT ALONE.. Thanks Steve.

BTW, anyone know who "Claire" is?
Several times a week, as I am driving and listening to the radio, I "Shazam" something I hear, and I usually buy the song on Amazon.
Today was Red Sovine's "Giddyup Go". By the time I got into the driveway, I was pretty misty eyed.

Ah yes, the Mandrell Show and Irlene! Never forget seeing hank Jr. in concert just out of high school either while everyone else was going to rock concerts. Even saw Roy Acuff at the Grand Ole Opry before his passing. Love this thread. Never tire of the good old C&W.

By the way my childhood heart throb was Barbara Mandrell.
Crystal Gayle here!
I started liking country with groups like Alabama, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and singers like Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Bocephus, Willy, etc. Later on in life, I broadened my horizons with the older country folks. And of course, Elvis, but he did a little of everything.
I have quite a diverse CD & record collection.

I have pretty diverse taste when it comes to music, I always say I like any song that's good. Have been into country since high school and yes I watched the Mandrell show every week. I lean toward greats like John Conlee, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Hank Jr, and of course Johnny Cash.

You know it's funny, I liked C&W earlier than most. You know how it was when you woke up one day and all the good music turned into disco.... Now, I don't much care for it.

well if we gonna mention heart throbs, it has to be the hot little red head Reba. She sings purty good too. I ,usually dont even listen to the radio anymore. I have all my albums ripped to MP3. yes they still have the white noise. I was raised on so much different music there is just no favorite, but when I karaoke it is Bocephus or Travis Tritt.

Don MacLean sang it died with Buddy Holly…..I think you're more correct….it died with Disco. Just as R&B died with 'Urban Music'. (Hip-Hop, Rap…call it what you will) Even Rod Stewart turned to Disco….
Sad, but even if they didn't have commercials, there is no decent radio station in my area.
I never listened to western & country until my wife and & I began line dancing...lots of fun.
Lyrics and titles are seriously funny to many..."Where am I going to live when I go home"

Claire is the wife of Bob the bar owner where the Good Old Blues Brother Boys played Stand By Your Man and RAWHIDE!
Life without Music would be a mistake!
Raised on Hee Haw! Can listen to Johnny Cash all day long, Merle Haggard, most Outlaw Country is good. Roy Clark is about the best guitar player ever. Is there an American that can sing better than George Jones? Bluegrass, Square Dancing, and fishing for bluegill was how I sent most summers as a child. How about Doc and Merle Watson, Flatt and Scruggs, Tony Rice, now them fellows can pick and grin! Vasser Clements could play a fiddle. Any American Music is good music- I like Woody Guthrie and just about every country sounding Grateful Dead tune ever played. Jerry Garcia played a great Banjo and was way into bluegrass before he played Psychadelic Music.

Finally a Winner! And did you know that Rawhide was the second choice? The original take was with "Sink the Bismarck"

Did not know nor have I head that song before, but now I will learn it and sing it to my father and my daughters and any one else that will listen. The Blues Brothers has always been one of my all time favorites and I did get to see John Lee Hooker live at some race track music festival in Chicago back in the 90s.
