When I was a youngster, as an Air Force Brat, I remember seeing the Thunderbirds fly the F-100 Super Sabre. Is that dating me?

Then early in my Navy career I saw the Blue Angels flying the A-4F Skyhawk.
Years later, serving in the Navy as part of the 'Ground Electroncs' Division of NAS Pensacola, Florida (1992-95) I was responsible for the PA sound system of the annual Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show. We bought and assembled a huge PA system to cover the entire tarmac and you could clearly hear every announcement from anywhere at the airfield that the civilians were allowed to go. They flew the F/A-18 Hornet then and I think they still do. And of course, everyone loved the Fat Albert (C-130) doing a rocket assisted take-off.

I'm active duty Navy, my "A school" was down in Pensacola, not NAS Pensacola but the much smaller older base a few miles down the road, Corry Station. Have to say as amazing as the Blue Angel's are I quickly learned to hate them, nothing worse then having those guys blasting overhead at 6 or 7 am when your trying to sleep in on the weekend. All the respect in the world for those fellas and their practice but man was it annoying.

IHMSA80x80, I forgot until now. One summer, the Thunderbirds came to Pensacola and had an impromptu (as far as we knew) practice session with the Blue Angels. Now that was a sight! No PA system or other preps but they announced it to Navy Families and allowed the civilian tourists who are normally touring the base to attend. I don't remember what planes the Thunderbirds were flying then. A check on the web shows that they were F-16's.
When I reported to my first ship, an Aircraft Carrier, they were flying F-4 Phantoms. You are so right about them being NOISY!
