CCW with a 1911 is really different for me, I'm not really ready. In the past my CCW choice was a DA/SA highcap 9mm (or a Ruger LCP). With the new CT laws on magazine capacity, I decided to go 1911 to replace the 9 mm with a 1911 Commander (10+1 9mm versus 8+1 .45 ACP).

I have a nice Springfield Armory Commander and a Don Hume IWB holster, as I practice and dry fire I discovered some operational problems I have with hurrying the thumb safety and incorrect grip. I am alternately dropping the thumb safety immediately after drawing (and not on target) or gripping poorly and not engaging the grip safety. The equipment exceeds my ability!

Message: Practice, dry fire, validate, practice ...

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Rich, you are right. My previous carry choice, a very nice S&W Model 59 was totally forgiving of shooter error, probably the reason it was a very popular choice with police departments. And the continuing reason that Glock seems to own PD's is because you really can't fail to put ordinance downrange with a Glock.

BTW- the M 59 (in a bedside safe @14+1 and another 14 ready to go)  is still the house gun, because I do believe in "Peace through superior firepower". The primary function of the M 59 is to get me about 10 steps to an AR with 4 30 round magazines. If that is not enough, I guess we lose

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Rich- The grips were a birthday gift from my son, they actually went on my first 1911, a Taurus PT 1911, which contrary to a wide held opinion, is a pretty decent 1911. I traded it to step up to my PM-1S

There are so many 1911 grip opportunities out there, I'd like to invite our Members to jump in and post grip pictures and links to grip makers

Steve- great idea, it is pinned to the 1911 section now...

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
