Not too long ago I got my first SuperMag...a 445. I looked at cartridge prices and popped for a few rounds. Still haven't fired it though.
Given the price of the rounds and the fact that I will never be a reloader I kept my eyes open and found some ammo for sale at a reasonable price and bought it sight unseen. That was an unwise move. I am not very confident in the stability of the ammo as you will be able to discern for yourself as you look at these pictures.
Now the seller thinks if I clean them up a bit with a brush or with steel wool...they should be fine to shoot. Please give me your learned advice...my experience since Nam has been primarily shotguns and .22s and I don't feel like losing a hand or a new-to-me revolver.
Gracias...

My guess is that you would have to work fairly hard to blow up a .445 SM, but I'm sure it could be done. I would never advise anyone to shoot corroded or possibly compromised ammunition. Balance the purchase price of the gun versus the loss on discarding the ammo. Pretty clear choice.
A reloader would likely pull the bullet, dump the powder, de-prime, clean and inspect the case, and then make decision. I'd pass on shooting the ammo as shown.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Pass. If they were in an environment that promoted rust, there may be other issues. I don't think there's a problem with the case strength so I believe you could shoot them (I've shot worse) but the fact they don't appear to be well taken care of causes some concern.

As a 7445 owner, I understand what you are saying about ammo prices. Because of that, I wouldn't have purchased mine if I didn't reload. There's couple where the corrosion looks pretty substantial. The ones that really bother are where it appears to go all the way to the primer. I just wouldn't shoot it.

Thank you all for sharing opinions. I really appreciate the informed input...
I'm gonna look 'em all over real good and give the worst of the lot to the local PD for disposal. My ancestors would chide me for buying a "pig in a poke" as they used to say. Ahhh, well....
