I will give you my limited experience. I have only been collecting Dan Wessons for 3 years or so.
I own several Monson revolvers, all of them to me seem that they were well made and finished and did not come to me with any mechanical issues.
I own 3 Palmer revolvers, 2 stainless and 1 blued. All are equal to the Monsons in fit and finish, no mechanical issues and shoot great.
In my limited sampling I see no noticeable difference in craftmanship, I will definitely buy another Palmer if the opportunity arises.

I have no experience with the Palmer era revolvers but I believe there are no issues.
Any issue a Palmer gun had would have been addressed at the time of purchase, I would think. Most problems come from the owners' limited understanding of how revolvers, and DWs in particular, function. It is largely assumed that since the tooling was older, the quality must be worse. But assume makes an ass out of you before me....
I'd buy with confidence. The main reason I have all Monson production is because they are easier to come buy.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Ahhhh....the old Monson/Palmer subject again. I have had quite a few of both and can say that I have not seen any more issues with one vs. the other. I can say this though, I have a few Palmer's that are my favorites and I believe the fit and finish of these exceeds anything I have seen from the Monson factory.

This question surfaces periodically.
I'm pretty sure that I speak for DWF (officially?) that the "Monson/Palmer quality" questions are baseless.
Too many guns from both sources are owned here with NO noticeable Q/A issues or variances, don't worry about this.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
