Seems like the forum has become slow and seldom. Covid? Crazy gun prices? Lack of ammo? AR market getting everyone's attention. Kind of sad, I know I don't keep up. But have seen some real rare Dan's lately for sale on GB. A PPC sold $2.8k and now a 741-SRS 10 slot shroud currently, common stupid rare. Haven't seen those in a whole lot of years. No mention? People used to get excited. The world has changed.

Yes, I’ve noticed a definite slowdown in activity on this forum for at least a year and a half. It was impossible for my safari browser to access the DWF, so I resorted to other browsers with some success. Of course, other members having similar problems would not see the posts related to the issue.
I suspect the COVID-19 pandemic also played a part in this. Nonetheless the DWF is still going though not like it once was, but then nothing is the same post COVID-19.
Our world has been turned upside down, yet there is some relief from the drudgery to be found here. Perhaps it will eventually get back to ‘normal’.

It is much slower than 10 years ago... members got older, had lifestyle changes, made moves, changed careers; basically life got in the way. Not nearly as robust but still helpful to the new members. I suspect that if you do a search on the DWF for anything related to models, dates, problems, etc... that it's been covered. That may have something to do with it?Â

There's a different forum I've belonged to for something like 23 years now, and it has been slowly dying for at least the last six or eight years. There's barely any activity now. I guess facebook or something has taken over. I personally hate facebook and wouldn't be involved in it. I prefer forums like this.
The Dan Wesson forum seems fairly slow, but it still shows up in the search engines when you try to find things out about Dan Wessons. That's how I found it! I expect a lot of things have already been covered pretty thoroughly here, but I figure on discussion forums it's OK to have the same discussion more than once. 🙂

Guilty of also being Facebook Dan Wesson Fan Club.  Partly because if the cultural change.  Partly because with my new additions, a pic on the phone and "BAM" its there. Â
Facebook could never equal the wealth of knowledge found here.  It is superficial in comparison and sometimes annoying....(when one guy responds to every posting with a "plug" for his online ammo business).
In response to things slowing down here, and the mutual annoyance of FB, there is certainly opportunity to pull some of that culture over here. Â Even the newer/younger DW owners can appreciate all to be found here. Â Afterall, they chose a Dan Wesson for a reason, and that reason is likely why they still own one. Â
Working on 6th pistol pac.  Maybe someday there will also be a IHMSA .32, and a .22 mag PP included in my stable.
Scout, good case of DWAS you have going. Good luck on that 22 mag PP. I finally nailed one after 9 years.Â
The Forum is always slow in the summer. Too many things to do. Of course, in Florida it is always fine weather. Lol. Not really, but snow we don't have. I suspect Ron is correct. Many questions have already been answered and Stinger is always ready to tell you where to look for the answer. He never seems to tire of responding to those newcomers that demand to know answers they could find out themselves with a little reading.
A lot of us don't want to talk about what is on Gunbroke currently. If we are bidding or watching and waiting to bid, the last thing we want is publicity and more bidders.Â

I still check in at least weekly. A couple other forums I frequent are rather slow too. This is by far the best place to come to discuss/learn about DWs and has a great group of knowledgeable, helpful people. When I see questions asked about DWs on other forums, I steer them here. Some may become active members and some will get their questions answered and disappear. Personally, I've gotten started reloading which has kept me busy when the weather keeps me off the salt water.(retirement is awesome) Looking at GB pricing makes me happy I bought my revolvers when I did.

Hi. I think alot of us newer members do check in, but mainly look at the comments of the veterans until we have useful things to share 🙂  I know I am busy working and check in when I have a minute.  I agree on the gunbroker talk, as the pricing is crazy before the drop starts during the next recession. Will probably then trade in my fixed barrel 44 for what I was originally looking for. Wish I had the funds to keep it and look for another, because it turned out to be a fine shooter.

Just not enough hours in the day!
I'm a DW Fanboy, having eight DW revolvers & three 1911's. I really enjoy the Forum - just don't get on here enough.
I'll try to do better if you guys will!
Regards,
Jim

I think when CZ stopped producing the DW revolvers it knocked the wind out of things a bit.
Many of us always had a little hope the revolver line would be expanded beyond the model 15. Now it looks like what is out there is all we have. I have always liked DW revolvers. I have been shooting them for over 40 years. I am sad for the shooters that will never have the opportunity to walk into a gun shop and pick up a Supermag or purchase a pistol pack.Â

Some folks might cme here for the stories; here's one:
The range I go to has posted a sign stating a Brown Bear sow and cub have been frequenting the range. My Wife was kind enough to let me borrow her rig, a S&W 329 in a Diamond D Alaskan Guide shoulder holster. It was light and very comfortable...bullets are a bit lite for her as well. I was wondering how the carry comfort would be with my Dan Wesson 44V8 in the same type holster for the 8 hour day; that's what I carried yesterday on the range. Yes, it was noticeablly heavier!
I checking a family in and one of the youngsters checks out the DW and says; "That's a big gun. What kind is it?" I smiled and said: "It's a Dan Wesson .44 Magnum."
I really like the gun. Mine's not up to the "Blue so deep you can see your ancestors." standard, but it still looks pretty good.
It was loaded with much hotter rounds than I'd put in the Wife's gun!
No animals were harmed in this story.

While I am not a revolver guy, I always think it's sad when an invention or product is ended, especially if there was something unique about it.
With the virus and riots leading to the total and complete sellout of all firearms in America in 2020 and the demand still significantly higher than any year prior to 2020, most companies were forced to narrow their options to minimize the time wasted in production run setups. Why make a run of 10K and another of 2K, when for the same effort you can make a run of 15k+ knowing all the product will be sold within a week of leaving the factory?
Wilson Combat is very public about what they had to do, and I don't think they faced any shutdowns in Arkansas. They've reduced barrels from 21+ calibers to just 6. I had a 6.5 Grendel barrel on backorder for 6 months. I called and asked, and they still had no idea. I don't blame them, but I did cancel the order. The same with magazines, they are only making the highest demand mags, and that also affects other companies using WC mags for say 357 Sig. Speaking of which, Sig shed much of their line-up and don't even offer anything chambered for 357 Sig right now.Â
DW is a little different since their products involve hand fitting. I am not sure there is any real difference in the cost of a run of 50 Guardians in one caliber, 50 in another, versus 100 in a single chambering. At the end of the day, hand fitting is the critical path limiting production.
That is a very long-winded way of saying I wasn't too worried about rapidly declining options and variations because I figured most would come back when a new normal is established.
With CZ buying Colt though, I am not sure how they will position everything. Dan Wesson could continue to be the high-end for both 1911s and revolvers, but what about some of Colt's high end stuff? I get Colt will offer all the entry level 1911s, revolvers, and Colt specific repros, but what about the cross-over in the middle and Colt's upper tier?
I fear this really means Colt will be left with the revolver space. If they were ever reconsidering offering revolvers again, doesn't the Colt purchase make that even more remote?Â
One can't panic buy skill.
