I just recently joined IHMSA and shot my first match last weekend at the Tusco range in Ohio. I only planned on shooting small bore so that's I all I had with me. The guys there talked me into shooting the field pistol targets since they were a little larger. They warned me they are also heavier and they might not go down. My score was poor but man was it fun. I shot standing revolver with factory irons. They shoot every month and I plan to go back. Hopefully I will have one of the 44's dialed in for big bore.
My dad was into this in the early days but was out by the time I was at shooting age. I had wanted to do this for years but just finally got the extra push when my brother said he wanted to give it a go also.
I didn't see any DW's at the range but a few guys spoke of them. I am just wondering if there is anyone here that gives their DW's a workout on the IHMSA range.

Here is some info from a LONG time DWF member from our partner site, the Dan Wesson Collectors Association.

Dean is pretty much The Man when it comes to IHMSA
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Anyone shooting IHMSA?
Yep, been shooting it since 1985, and still do. I saw your post on the IHMSA website, I think. Tusco is a great range with great people running the matches. I've been there several times for the International Championships between 2002 and 2008. Glad you could get over there and try it out, it is addicting!
My first ever Revolver 40x40 was shot with a Dan Wesson SuperMag, 740-V8S, back in 1988. It was the first Revolver 40 fired by a Kentucky resident. There have been several other perfect revolver scores since then, and I still shoot my Dan Wessons in IHMSA matches at times. Our range in Crittenden, KY holds 2 silhouette matches each month, along with 2 silhouette practice days, from March through October. That would be about 4 hours from Tusco's range, if you ever get down this way.

I drove past the Crittenden exit 2 weeks ago. We spent a few days in Gatlinburg, TN. I told the wife we should have planned the trip around a match weekend. I would like to go to a match there.
Yes, all of the guys there were eager to help my brother and I along.
That was me on the IHMSA forum. Like many others I wish I could figure out a way to drum up more interest.
I shoot standing only. Just got a good load dialed in for the 3 screw SBH so this Sunday at tusco will be my 1st go at big bore. I plan on shooting 5 classes. Only 1 Dan is dialed in so far. The 722.
A 40x40 seems like pipe dream to me. My goal is 30. If I can get to 30 then I will bump the goal to 40.

It took a few years to get the first 40, lots of practice, plus, back then, I could go to a different silhouette match every Saturday and Sunday each month, all within a 2 hour drive from where I lived.
You have to set realistic goals. Sure, the 40 is a big one, but as I was advancing in the classes, I made my goals attainable. Like getting all the chickens for the first time, or, later, as I got better, not missing any turkeys (the downfall of most everyone). The primary goal each match or practice session was to do better than the previous one.
