DWAS hit hard last week with 3 purchases from the internet. I thought I might supplement that by attending the largest gun show in Iowa.
WRONG!! I spent several hours searching diligently for DW revolvers and didn't find anything. No barrels, no memorabilia... nothing. I did not go on opening night so maybe everything was already long gone. I have to admit this was my first visit to a gun show in years but I was disappointed that I couldn't find anything to admire. I was swamped in Colts and Smiths and Rugers and Taurus. The last of which made me wonder how successful a firearm named Aquarius would be?
In scouring the internet and reading the posts on this forum it seems to me that most DW revolver sales and posts are generated in the east, south and northwest. I don't have any data to back that up...just based on what I have observed on the net.
I welcome any thoughts on the matter...

It does seem that there are more Dan's in the south, Pacific northwest and east. I have no idea why. Don't give up on local shows though, I've gone to several and found nothing, but then I stumble onto a nice find every now and then. Don't be in a hurry, you usually find things when you aren't really looking for them. At least that's how it seems to go for me. Good luck with your treatment.

I'm in Minnesota and I haven't seen more than 3 or 4 Dan Wesson revolvers at a Gun Show in the past 10 years and none of them were worth buying. My money is safe in my pocket at a gun show.
Very few DW 1911s either.
Gunbroker and other online auction sites is how I have located DWs and a few from Cableas

Are DW revolvers "regional"??

Yes, I believe they are, but not how you may think .. where they don't show up, there are lots of hoarders in that area and where they do show up, it's collectors selling lower grade stuff as they upgrade their pieces. Remember, other than the current Norwich 715, every single Dan revolver is in someone's possession.

I think it is a combination of factors. In the NE, especially PA, the seem numerous. FL gets a lot of northerners bringing them down. The other factor seems to be where Law Enforcement accepted them for service use, before the rise of Glock and polymer semi autos. I think Ron is correct as far as the large frame and Supermag guns are concerned. In the last couple of years many used guns are sold on Gunbroker instead of sitting in Gunshops or Pawn Brokers cases. Shops make more money selling trade ins online then the make on new guns. The new guns bring in the customers. I have also noted that those Dans in shops and gunshows tend to disappear very quickly these days. I attribute that to the success of the Forum.

I am from Wisconsin, and have been a fan of Dan Wesson revolvers for many years. Years ago I would see Dan Wesson revolvers more often than I do now. I think there is some truth about guys getting their hands on them and hanging on to them. I speak from experience, I did it 4 times. A pistol pack, then a 22LR with two barrels, a 445 super mag, and last a very nice 44 mag. I wish I would have bought a few that I walked by, but the 4 I have all shoot very well.
