? ref. the vented shroud...when you look into an empty(non barrel) shroud is there an inner "groove" roughly where the two vent holes are located? I do not have an exact measurement but this "groove" is wider than the vents themselves. i have nvr had or done any work myself. hope this is not a duh question...

Yes it is some form of an expansion chamber, plus the holes go all around the barrel so this allows the gasses to escape up to help hold muzzle rise down. Or at least it was intended to. I believe the actual effect of the power control system was minimal.
