So I have been interested in obtaining some of the nastiest boo coo bad brass ammo made for the 44Mag.
I have been obsessively reading about Garrett Cartridge Co 'Hammer head' 'weight forward' massive metplat ultra hardness 44mag > expensive as hell , can only be bought directly from them , made in WA state.
The Grizzly Cartridge Co out here in Oregon, also NOT cheep, they have then 'punch' bullet , look em up .
Cor Bon, I use to use their CorBon 45 Colt +P 300 grain semi jacketed flat nose out the end of my 4- 5/8th inch Ruger Black Hawk SA convertible and I thought WOW this stuff is the cat's whiskers ( and claws )
Buffalo Bore of Montana: Well I found these little diddles on the shelf of a large regional chain sporting goods store , you know the kind that put small gun shops out of business if then can often called derogatorily Sportsman's Whore House, lol .
I looked at the Buffalo Bore box and low and behold they spec out real close to the Garret bad boy ammo only difference is the hammer head i e weight forward dart style flat nose.
I said Hummmmm since I truly believe in Sasquatch ( I really do ) and I spend a LOT of time in His ( and Her's ) back yard poking around the woods for gold, wild trout and meat with horn's, yelled to my imaginary friends " Hey Beaver Hey Wally I found some custom small batch Sasquatch ammo" , lol.
340 Grain, 21 Brinel hardness, Gas Checked, Super flat face – metplat, at 1,425 FPS - 1,533 Ft Lbs , I buy , I fly.
Out the end of my DW w 8 inch ported barrel w Houge rubber grip > "BOOM" ouch , dam, this stuff is NASTY, it's WICKED oh and it's FUN !!!
6 Shot's , 1 shot every 1 min to allow the pain and feeling to come back into my hand.
Verdict: This is NOT target ammo, it is > site it in and put it away for a later time when Your gonna have a possible serious encounter with a BIG wild hog, Bear, or Zombie type ammo !!!
Man -o-man , from now on I am leaving my 45-70 at home, I'm gonna hunt Elk ( and Sasquatch ) with my Buffalo Bore 340 grainers.

I've only shot Buffalo Bore once (don't recall the bullet weight), but yes, it had plenty of punch. Since watching a friend break the back on his Anaconda a few years back, with some (very) hot loads, I decided I'm not into punishing my guns that way. Yeah, now & then I can learn from the mistakes of others.
I get plenty of satisfaction from my .44 hand loads...240gr JFP & 23gr of 4227 in both my 44's. Should be right near 1300 FPS & makes big holes in anything they hit...that's fine by me.

I just had to try the 'hot stuff'.
Oh , and they give off a real neat big blue'ish bright white circle of flame
( not a yellow ball ) but what looks kinda like a when a cigarette smoker blows smoke rings except these are flame rings that right in front of the muzzle start out about the size of a Frisbee then get reel big at out about 10 feet !!! so even if the Zombie, Rhino or Sasquatch ( ok Elk ) didnt get hit with the bone smasher hard cast the flame shock should be stun it long enough for me to regain my vision and hearing enough to get off a 2nd 'trigger jerk / twitch' BOOM, ahhhhh I , I mean smooth shot, lol
Man o man I am just going to save this stuff for charging Rhino ( In Oregon ? ) well ya You never know if one passing by is in a semi truck and it jack knifes and guess what the exotic Rhino is in the back when the truck rolls over and now it is on the loose and shazam I just happen to have Buffalo Bore Rhino busters load and ready to go , lol .
On a more realistic note, I have discovered MagTech, Brazilian made 240Gr semi jack flat nose $22 a box, which has a nice BANG and good THUMP , a much more manageable kick for displaying to the un-educated Smith & Wesson masses that big brother Dan is the man who make bull's eye a very common occurrence

The only Buffalo bore ammo I own or have fired is 475 Linebaugh. They offer variuos loadings in that caliber. For what it is worth a note of caution came from Gary Reeder on Buffalo Bore, he will not warrant his gun builds if using this ammo. For what it is worth..
Steve glad you found the site here and are enjoying the new .44

I don't blame any custom pistol smith for not guaranteeing a gun that tries to attack it's owner for jamming Buffalo or Garrett mortar rounds in the sewer pipe.
A 445 Super Dan ( Yidish)> Oy Vay !
So if I had a 445 SM I guess I would have to roll my own steroid biscuits ?
Buy spendy & rare brass from one of You guys like a crack fiend junky from a rich drug dealer ?
I can see it now, " Gee Mr DW collector with all the original 445 factory brass, the last 10 shots You sold me are all stretched out, Im hurtin bad man, I blew out my primer pockets , can you hook me up, p-le-a-s-e , lol.
Perhaps I can go McGyver and hack saw some 45-70 Starline ?
Here are a few a DW ad's I just made up for the 445 SM
"The Dan Wesson 445 Super Magnum, twice the price, twice the fun"
"When You have a Dan Wesson Super Magnum , everything else is NOT "
" Dan Wesson 445 Super Magnum, in the bedroom & on the range , bigger is always better"
"Dirty harry , You mean little dirty harry"
"Dan Wesson 445 SM, the owners of them all say it stands for Sado Masochism"
"Bill Smith has a Dan Wesson 445 Super Magnum named 'Betty' ( Betty Boom) , boats are no longer the only machines named after women !
"Do You want to spontaneously cause a cease fire at the shooting ranger firing line, ' then open up a Dan Wesson pistol pack" '
Joe: "I have a Dan Wesson 445 Super Magnum single shot I bought a few years back"
Bill: " I thought they are 6 shooters ? "
Joe: "No its a 1 shooter, the cylinder is just a massive storage container to hold five more for another time "
Bill : " I don't understand ? "
Joe: " Look at it this way Bill, I never had reason to kill an Elk twice "
Bill: " What about target shooting ? "
Joe: " I can only put 1 hole in a X ring, I got tired of walking 6 times back & forth to change targets"
Some more of my generic DW ad's
" Mr Smith, He is no longer with Us any more, He wasn't up to the task "
"Dan Wesson, that's English for 'Swiss watch' "
"Dan Wesson owner to a S&W owner : " a Smith & Wesson 500, so did You buy that at Big 5 ? "
Dan Wesson 445 owner to S&W 500 owner: " How cute they put little holes in the side of the barrel so the wife can shoot it "
Dan Wesson owner to S&W 500 owner, " You mite want to send that back to the factory performance center to fix that trigger "
Dan Wesson 22 owner to a S&W 500 owner compairing the heft of both gun's : " It's amazing what S&W is doing with such a small amount of metal "
Dan Wesson owner to a Taurus Raging Bull owner : "Not bad a for an imitation Colt Python "
Dan Wesson owner to a Taurus raging bull owner : " Brazil, its that next to Tijuana ? "
Dan Wesson owner to a Colt Python owner: " You ever think about moving up to a Dan Wesson ? "
Dan Wesson owner to a Colt Anaconda owner: " Nice Raging Bull"
Dan Wesson owner to Colt Anaconda owner: "Did You see the photo of the Anaconda on all the gun forums that blew up from shooting the ammo I am using ? "
Dan Wesson magnum owner to a S&W magnum owner : " I only shoot this one little lady, my other 5 are virgins, I just like to look at em, aren't they beautiful "
How do You know a Dan Wesson owner is lying ? : > " I'm happy with just this one DW "
You know you a Wesson Head when You stop in all 3 pawn shops in town once a week like clock work just in case a stainless vented slotted Monson happens to show up"
a DanBott = Dan bought 'another' DW.
Wife: " That's nice honey, but don't You already have about 15 of those different barrel shroud thingies already ? "
Stop me I'm on a roll , lol

I have a box of the 44 mag. Cor-bon. It seems to me it would kill an elephant. You think the Buffalo bore is better or equal to Cor-bon? Excluding recoil is there any scientific data? Sometimes the grips make a big difference on the recoil.
I don't know about terminal hunting "effectiveness", but I have shot the 320 grn Hard Cast Corbon Hunter load (stated 1175 FPS & 981 ft-lbs) and also the 340 grn Lead Flat Nose Gas Check Buffalo Bore 44 +P+ load (stated 1425 FPS & 1533 ft-lbs) out of my 4 inch heavy lug Dan in Target Shooting.
The Buffalo Bore (BB) really packs a wallop (the people in the lane next to me moved over a few lanes, complaining about "the cannon") Eight shots is all I felt I could handle at that time. However, that said, I was at the end of a long day before I tried the BB. My hands did get a tad numb, which I noticed afterwards. Got two, 4 to 6 inch groups at 7 yds (DA, rapid fire). Gives me hope against a charging bear
The Corbon I shot (not same day) seems a lighter load after the BB. If you are going to use the BB, I suggest some real practice to get used to it. When you really need to use it, you probably won't notice the kick with all the adrenalin flowing through you .
One thing on the DW grips. My Large Frame Presentation Pacymers [sp?] are the DECELERATION types. They have a hollow tube running up the front of the grip (inside the grip between the front of the grip and the mounting hole tube). Not sure all the Pacymers presentation grips are like that. My Hogues are NOT like that. I can tell the difference in felt recoil between the two. The deceleration grips are on all my large frames now. That is all I use.
I also started getting a tad of flame etching (barely) from the BB. Don't think it will really progress that far. Just a barely visible line, not worried about it.
Another positive: now when I shoot my Buffalo Bore 170 grn (180 grn?) .357 Heavy Load in my DW small frame, it feels like shooting 38 specials (Really, not kidding).
