I just acquired an unfired pistol pack. What does everyone recommend using to take care of the finish. Is there anything I should worry about that could hurt the finish?

Welcome to DWF, please visit New Members and introduce yourself

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wilburjoe, Welcome to the forum.

If there are no existing problems with the finish then just treat it like any other gun. I like to keep it lightly oiled to prevent rust or other corrosion. I like to use Kroil which is also good for general cleaning of guns. It is important not to store it in a leather holster. The leather will attract and hold moisture which will cause rust. If you keep it in a factory pack case, then I would wrap it in wax paper or other special treated paper for guns. That will keep the foam or cloth in the case from imparting moisture to the surface of the gun. The same goes for the extra barrel assemblies.

The best is to store them in a safe with dehumidifier depending on your locale and whether your home is routinely air conditioned which will also dry out the air.

This is very general info. We would need to more about the actual condition of your pac to tell you more.

Thank you. It is in like new condition. It is still wrapped in the protective paper. It will be stored in the original case in my safe. I was just worried about it being older if there were any chemicals that would hurt the finish. I usually keep my guns well oiled since I am located in the south. I will try to post pictures of it next week when I get a chance.

It's a blue 15-2 pistol pack. I have a lot of newer revolvers but I usually purchase stainless steel. I have always wanted to add some Dan Wessons to my collection and I am finally able to start.
