It seems to be human nature and even non human nature to collect things. Pack rats, bower birds, crows and other animals collect objects that strike their fancy. Humans start  at an early age. Boys have/had baseball cards, comics, stamps and coins.Girls have dolls, posters and stuffed animals to name a few . As adults some people even hoard animals or everything they ever owned. I had boyhood stamps and coins, minerals and turtles. As an adult I collected wine. You drink it its gone. Paper deteriorates. My bonsai die and require daily care. Pottery breaks. Automobiles require great holding costs. The point is that almost all collecting is very irrational and financially silly.

Enter firearms and Dan Wessons in particular. They don't deteriorate with just a little care. They take up relativaly little space. THEY CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE. Protect against a repressive government and feed your family. Properly acquired they appreciate in value .In the case of Dan Wessons, there is an ever diminishing amount of a superably made durable good . The only thing that could be better is if the underlug was goldfilled.( Are you reading this Eric.) Collecting Dan Wessons is an extremely reasonal thing to do (and all well made firearms). Very pleased with my DWAS , Ron aka Old Dog

A whole lotta rationalization and justification going on there, all very rational and justified of course!

Very timely topic...I had a similar conversation tonight when asked by the grrlfriend , " why do you need another brown briefcase ? "  My reply was not quite as  eloquent as ole dog's philosophy.

"grrlfriend"  rofl Too funny!

Ole Dog, I agree with your rationalization. Although, I think coin collecting (coins with intrinsic value, not the devalued pocket change they make today) is also a good thing to do.

I agree about coins. Especially gold ones. For their bullion value too. One day soon quantitative easing(printing money so to speak) will catch up to our currency. It can be delayed but not avoided. Those dans may come in handy to put feral hog and gator on the table(squirrel too).

Of course, collections appreciate in value based on supply and demand.  Was talking to some antique car collectors who speculate that their ranks will continually thin over time since fewer drivers each year know how to drive a standard transmission.  Looking in my safe I have to wonder how much demand there will be for non-tactical firearms 20 years from now?  And that assumes they will even be legal to posses and shoot then.

Gosh Pistoloro, don't worry. The more things change the more they stat the same. Muesums are filled with useless old stuff. Besides, they are nice and shiney.
