I think that got you guys attention. I was reading an advertisement by our brother Gary Reeder [the famous custom gun maker and engraver]. Boy he does some beautiful work. Anyway I thought this was very interesting on his wildcat ctg. He produces these for those that have a hard time finding ammo for their SM. You can buy his. I know most of us are purist with the DW. We would never convert out SM to his ctg., but I would like to have his ctg in my Thompson Contender. What do you guys think about this ctg? His ctg. are about 6 bucks a piece. Too high for me when I can reload.

[Image Can Not Be Found] KODIAK HUNTERGARY REEDER CUSTOM GUNS is very pleased to announce the return of a classic series. Several times a month we have folks asking about rechambering and rebarreling the large frame Dan Wesson revolvers. For those that have the old 357 Maximum, or 414 Super Mag, we now have our KODIAK HUNTER. The KODIAK HUNTER is rechambering your Dan Wesson and rebarreling it to new calibers. Here is what we do. If you have a 357 Maximum revolver, we can build a new barrel and rechamber your current cylinder to 375 GNR or 41 GNR#2. If you have one of the 375 Super mag and can't find ammo for it, we can rechamber it to the 375 GNR or rechamber and rebarrel it to the 41 GNR#2. If you have a 414 Super Mag and want much more power, we can rechamber your cylinder to 41 GNR#2. In the conversion we re-mark your barrel shroud with the correct caliber and if your revolver is blue we reblue it in either satin black or high polish Black Chromex. If stainless, we re-mark it and give it a soft satin Vapor Honed finish.
Ammunition for the 375 GNR and 41 GNR#2 are both available from Andy Rowe at Cartridge Performance. See the link on our links page.
Bring your old Dan Wesson large frame revolver back to life with a new barrel and rechambered cylinder with our new KODIAK HUNTER conversion. To build a new barrel, rechamber your current cylinder, re-mark it, and do the finish work on the gun is $750. To rechamber the current cylinder, re-mark the gun and do the finish work on the gun is $500.
Note the 375 GNR ( 445 SM necked to 375 ). Ballistics by some say, "A 200 grain @1300-1500 fps out of a 5.5" Redhawk or 6" model 29; more powerful than a .357 and possibly a flatter trajectory than a 41 or 44 mag !! any thoughts ??"
The .41GNR is a .44 Rem. mag. necked down to a .41 mag.
Gary Reeder GNR ammo all types.

I own two Reeder barrels for TCs. A 30 GNR (Contender) and a 310 GNR (Encore) and I like them both. I would never convert a DW, but would a Ruger if I were so inclined to have a revolver in a GNR cartridge. Just my $.02

I would have a tough time compromising a Wesson for those, BUT I own three Reeder revolvers and a fourth is on its way. His revolvers are among my favorite go to guns to take to the range. They just are so smooth and the fit and finish are top shelf, IMHO. I can say without a doubt I prefer them over my FreedomArms. I know I'll get bashed for that comment

I'm not one to bash over something as personal as a custom handgun, but I admit, I a bit surprised. To me, this truly says a lot about Gary's gun work. I have never cared for the "branding" he has done to his customs, but if you say the function of his customs actually surpasses Freedom Arms guns, then that really piques my interest. I may have to put up with the cheezy "branding" after all & belly-up to a GNR custom. Although I don't think I'd agree to it being based on something other than a Ruger SBH. Although there might be two common DW models that I might put under "the knife"...maybe.

I would like to qualify my statement about Freedom Arms, I think they are for sure stronger than Reeder's only because FA makes their frames to be like a fort. Gary uses primarliy Rugers and they are only as strong as Ruger builds them. My feeling is simply the the smoothness and finesse about Gary's guns that I find appealing. I have also been able to be more accurate with Gary's guns for whatever reason that is? Accuracy goes a long way in my assessment of a firearm. Gary's branding or engraving is definitelly more of an artistic expression than some can appreciate, I like them however. Just my humble opinion.

I would love to have one of my DW pistols tweaked by Gary Reeder. As you know there are a lot of things you can do to make a revolver more accurate. I would like to have one of Reeder's Rugers. Which you can send yours to him and he will engrave it for about 700.00. I would rather have it accurized by him.

I have been looking for a REASONABLY priced BEATER DW revolver - 357 Max or 375 SM - but even those are way overpriced (for a beater, reasonable for a fine condition one). I would love to have a 41 GNR#2 made up. Note, I talked to Gary and he said that if you want the shiny deep black finish , not satin ones that you usually see for the Kodiak, you need a Non Barney base gun...

When I had my 414SM Reeder built with black Chromex finish I managed to luck into a Ruger 357max on Auction Arms with a below market BIN price years ago, I have never been able to repeat that fortune as often as I look. The last I remember checking out Gary's site I believe he was getting into casting some of his own frames for the longer cartridges, but I am not sure if it followed through or not.
