Yes, Steve got "Cop Stopped" tonite, sort of

The "back story" is that I work every Sunday night (my day off cry) and every Sunday night for the past several years on the way home from work, I call my brother to chat, catch up on life, and talk shooting in general and DWF specifically. Sometimes that conversation lasts up to an hour, and I sometimes pull off to the side of the street that I live on to continue chatting.

As I am sitting on the side of my (residential) street I see what is clearly a police cruiser coming up the street, I even told Bruce that I needed to get off the call because the police were here, and got ready.

The cruiser pulled a U Turn behind me, before it was behind me I was outside my car, hands clearly visible (and I'm always armed, at minimum with a knife, in this case, more). I identified myself to the officer, told her I was on the phone with my brother, and that I live on this street. As the second police cruiser drove past, she gave him a "thumbs up" and he parked on the street watching the situation.

The batty old lady in the house is screaming from an upstairs window about a "stalker", the officer never confronted me, I think she recognized that I was not a threat, and there had been time to run my plate to see that I live on this street. I told her I pulled over to talk on the phone ("not enough people will do that"). I thanked her for her courtesy, she thanked me  for my cooperation, we went on our way.

Tomorrow I call the Middletown Police Dept (and probably the Mayor's Office) to give some positive feedback

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Whaaa? no courtesy pat down?  Definitely call and give an atta-boy, uh, girl, to her supervisor.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Glad it went well for you. Most cops don't like you getting out of your car now days.

There is more than enough info in a LEIN search for the LEO's to have at hand.

The last stop I had I truly believe that the CPL helped the LEO know that I had been vetted by the TPTB and resulted in some slack in the road side meeting.

Endeavor to persevere,
Press on regardless.

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

I don't think CT shares the Pistol Permit info on a plate search, and we are not a "must inform" state.

I would have informed if I felt we were even close to a "situation". I very deeply respect the LEO's need to know to help keep everyone safe.

I think that me being out of the car, fully visible, and hands visible helped. If this had been a "pull over", NO WAY!

Ignition off, hazard flashers on, hands on the steering wheel, "I am legally carrying a pistol".

"What do you want me to do next?"

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

!. Glad things went well

2. Most states do not have your CCW info available to constables.

3. I NEVER and would strongly recommend to anyone to NEVER volunteer any information when pulled over for a stop about CCW's.  If asked, then answer.  Too many folks in uniform will have their meter go TILT and start to assume all sorts of things. Fact.

I felt the same Photo but when I took my course here in KY. thinking it was a good idea to have conceal as well as open possibilities, we were told if we are carrying, we should give both licenses to the officer and inform him that I am concealed...

I thought it was none of his business unless I was really doing something wrong... Thats just me..

Happy it all was kosher for you Steve.

I agree, up to the point that I need to reach for ID. Wallet is located pretty close to the holster location.

"I am licensed to carry a pistol. My pistol is holstered next to the pocket that has my ID. What do you want me to do?"

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have been carrying for 9 years concealed I have been pulled over many many many times. Out of those time I have had one issue with a deputy really late at night.

Coming from a law enforcement family I don't understand were the "ACAB" "Do t trust the police thing" comes from. Are there bad police officers yes just like in any profession there will be that "one guy".

This situation in St. Louis is a perfect example of the "I had a bad experience with a cop because of something I was doing wrong so now I can't trust any of them."  There you use to be a time when you taught your kids if your in trouble and need some help you can trust the police. Now a days I see kids as young as 6 telling the police they dont trust them.

It saddens me that this is the way society is going. Not trying to start a fight just felt like I needed to say my peace.

Hey glocknator I pretty much agree with your comments here, but I just can't let this slide. "I have been pulled over many many many times."     Sounds like a pattern!!!    poke rofl

I'm having to deal with this now with my 6 year old because my mother-in-law makes negative comments about police officers. As you stated above her views are because she got a ticket for speeding and on a separate occasion a ticket for make an illegal left turn. Compound this with the fact that she has a problem with authority...

I'm also curious about the many many many times you have been pulled over! cool

Okay maybe in my younger days I had kind of a lead foot. Although it probably didn't help I was dating a Police officers daughter as well as my Dad is a retired LEO from the same city.

Well, I have carried over 40 years and these are my feelings.  I also come from LEO stock, where I was informed to not mention.  Unless it is law in your state, when they "Tell" you to offer this information, I believe that they really "Suggested" it to you.

I understand all of this, and my state is not "must inform"

I'm trying to apply common sense and say that:

No matter the law says, I will probably "inform" in order to keep ME safe

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
