Last night I was bidding on a DW belt buckle on febay.  I think there was around 16 bids and the price was up to $48.   I had an automatic bid in for $55 and it was sitting there for the last few minutes.  With 2 seconds left someone bid $56.  I knew this could happen but I had decided what my max bid would be.  I can live without a DW belt buckle but I would like to have one for my 15-2 PP.  The previous belt buckle that sold on febay was about $63.  DW belt buckles are scarce, obviously.

I have bid/bought guns off GB which has the 15 minute rule on most items for bid.  At first I didn't like it but I'm beginning to like it more.  It gives everyone a chance to bid to their limit and gives the seller the opportunity to get the best price for their item.

According to my wife febay is going down hill.  She has bought 750 items over the last few years for her doll collecting hobby.  She says there are not as many sellers as there once was.  Fees and rules are getting less attractive to sellers.

I will still bid on febay but I don't expect to win may items. frown

I recently lost a bid on ebay in a similar circumstance. Within the last seconds of the auction four bids popped in with the winning bid several hundreds of dollars over my high bid. I don't know how these folks do it. I lost one were I increased my bid with under 10 seconds left on the auction and somebody else got a higher bid in. But, I guess if you want the stuff, you have to deal with it.

There are computer programs that some buyers use to slip in their bid in the last second of an auction on eGouge (my own personal favorite nicknamelol2 ), so I'm pretty sure that's how some of those bids get grabbed.

I think it's really hard to get a good deal anymore on stuff like that these days. There's just too many people who havedwas out there lately.big-grin

I think the 15 minute rule certainly benefits the sellers and if you're really interested in an item it benefits the buyer as well.  eBay fees are just crazy!

The 15 minute rule lets you bid any amount if you have the money to buy it.  You can simply run others out of the process.  On febay you may have the money to go high but never get the chance.  I bid my max on the belt buckle and wouldn't have gone any higher given the chance.  It was just not worth it to me.

I do know that when I want something and have the money I will buy it even though it will cost me way more than it's market value.  I'll bet I'm not the only one on that.

I have found the best way to find a really good deal is to search for an item that is spelled wrong.  Other people might not catch on to the item and may not be watching it.wow

Without the 15 minute rule, there are several Dan's that I would have missed out on.  I never expected them to go as high as they did. I also never expected that I would bid as high as I did. rofl In several cases the bidding was "enhanced" by my wife's participation in setting the next level.

Oh well, I have no regrets, In every one of those cases I was able to obtain something for my collection that could have slipped away if done in the eBay format.

I don't have an eBay account so all my bidding is done by my wife.  Sometimes she knows I really want something and she knows how Irish (cheap) I am so she bids higher without my even knowing it......... and we still get out bid.  The more I think about it the more I like the 15 minute rule.  It gives me time to get up my nerve.

All of us the deal with fbay have been sniped. Depending on how many bidders/watchers and who has the fastest connection.  GB has changed somewhat over the years I at one time could put up an odd bid and win, now it seems that a bidder can be out done even if it isn't over your high bid by the amount they say! Still able to grab somethings off of the febay (fee bay).proud-to-be-an-americanbuy-now is still my favorite!

I can't stand when I put a fair bid in then someone will just pick

at it with $2 bids 87 times until they are the lead bidder, it's like

WTH, why not just bid what you want screwy. Seems like they are playing

the slots at Vegas.  On the other hand as a seller I'm glad to see two

bidder's throwing bids every hour for 5 days laugh.

If at all possible for me to be on computer at the end of the auction

I will be that last ten second sniper range-time, lets be real, either you

get it or I get it and that's that.

Well Blacktop said, "I will be that last ten second sniper range-time"  At least now I know who got my belt bucklle.  LOL

BTW, have you got your gun back from Mark yet?  I haven't but it's been right at 4 weeks.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I think what you may have experienced here is a bidding priority issue.  If the previous bid is 1200.00 and I bid 1234.56 at 11:14 and the bid increment is 25,  and then at 11:19 you bid 1230.00, then I win unless you out-bid me by 25.  The logic here is that the next bid increment will be at 1259.56 which is 25 more than my bid.

At least I think that's how it works.  It has actually worked that way for me.

Due to E-Barf's anti-gun stance, I will never use their site for anything.
