Guys, I just read the article that I linked to below and was wondering does any here do this?
Bug-Out Bag: Homemade Survival Kits
Some call it a bug-out bag, others a go-bag, but it’s the same thing regardless of terminology—a pre-packed survival kit in case you have to leave home in a hurry. A go-bag should include everything you and your family might need to sustain yourselves for a short time.
Before getting to the nuts and granola bars, let’s put the go-bag into perspective and understand what it is—and what it isn’t. A go-bag is not an apocalyptic bomb shelter with months of freeze-dried food, a chemical toilet and enough equipment to survive a long period of time. The purpose of a bug-out bag is to tide you over during a disaster that requires you to evacuate your home. Read More...

My wife and me have both put together bug-out bags. The bags are basically a collections of items that you can survive on for 3 to 4 days. We use MOLLE type backpacks on aluminum frames. We also have a third pack that contains very comprehensive first aid supplies.
We do maintain a 30 day supply of Mountain House freeze dried food. But this is because we live in hurricane country.

yup, always have had one or two. I even have a mini day-to -day go bag--lives under the drivers seat in the car. It contains stuff you truly use every day; aspirin, band-aids, bailing wire, change, cash, leatherman, mini pry bar, small 6 way screwdriver, 4" crescent wrench, zip ties, bungee, pliers, file, p-38 can opener, ruler, scissors, duct tape, etc...
Here she be... Gets used a lot more than you think.
threads like this are productive--I need to restock on breath mints, aspirin, and cash among other things. Everyone should have one of these under the seat.
The real bug out bag is one of my military MOLLE jumpable packs--It is fully equipped for true survival for a few days until I can find a suitable place to "take over"...Yes, I'm that guy--the one who will end up living with the cochroaches after everything else is dead. I have weapons and ammo, so I don't need much else. I'm not a survivalist--I'm a realist...I'll do whats necessary to keep my family alive and well.

I won't bore you with the big Bug-out Molle set-up... it is the same as everybody elses for the most part, except mine has a few special items...
My gut tells me these will be important items to have if I really do need to grab the bag and go... We won't even discuss the big bag in the 4x4 Landcruiser... (the "Red Dawn" package)...

Doesn't everybody carry a P38? LOL Some may laugh at me as I am the emergency preparedness guy for a Hospital, I do Fire, EMS, Haz-Mat, Dive Rescue/Recovery, And I am heavily part of the Local EMA. But I do not have a GO bag. But then I guess my truck looks like a Rescue vehicle with all the toys mentioned above and a few more. I guess if I were forced to ditch the truck I would just have to go Rambo style! I probably should re-think my own preparedness.
How many of us remember Y2K when all the folks were stockpiling supplies and such, the same folk's who don't own a flashlight for every day problems.
OH well, I am kinda messed up in my own sort of way I guess!

My day pack for hunting serves as a bug out bag, and I would also suggest bringing flashlight/batteries, transistor radio, ammo and large capacity magazines and high powered rifles just in case of Zombies.
But for the most part though, you will bug out in a vehicle, right?!?! Why not have a bug out vehicle with a trunk packed with the obvious stuff, or a truck with everything stored behind the seat???

Good idea for a thread. I sometimes mention these things to people I have worked with and the sometimes raise a hairy eyebrow....like most have said, we are not nuts just prepared.
My items are the usual, but I deploy alot and I have prepared a bag big enough for an emergency evacuation to my dad's (further in the country). but yet small enough for her to manage. in case welfare stops while i'm on deployment and the riots start.
I'm also relieved to see I'm not the only one with multiple "go bags". I dont want to be bothered putting my essentials bag in whichever conveyance for the day, so i have mini survival bags in every vehicle...to include the harley. in the truck and her suv there is an MRE, space blanket, and flares on top of your usual stuff.
Flashllights, lots of them, with batteries...everywhere, along with ammo. old binos here and there and knives and so on and so on.
I even carry an isreali torniquet thingy with me alot, esp when hunting. seen 'em used in iraq. they are one handed too which is a big plus.
people who know me always ask me for the odd thing they may need when we are out and about...cause I usually don't have to reach far for it.
