Has anyone ever welded or repaired the hook part of a DW buckle ? Friend got one from for xmas and wife didnt notice the damage. I can borrow a wire welder and maybe build the hook tip up but buckle almost looks like "potmetal" that i dont think can be welded. Thanks !

I don't think you could weld it, looks like cast or pot metal.  I'd try to epoxy the hook on, its safer and you can always remove it if it doesn't hold.  I think a good quality liquid two part epoxy should do the trick, after all, they build boats and planes out of the stuff.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Thats a good idea Scorpio. I was also thinking of JB weld as a possibility. I always wondered what the buckle really is made of. DW brochures say "appearance of pewter" i think. Hey, if it doesnt work the worse that can happen is the guys pants fall down..  surprised

I weld from time to time however I'm not an expert. Pot metal can be fixed, I have heard of this,

however from what I have heard it's not easy and a different set up. Have you considered maybe

brazing? Not sure If it will work, maybe worth checking out though.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link !  Another good idea on the buckle repair. I was not aware of this product. I sometimes do  work on 60s and 70s musclecars and whenever a potmetal part is bad its usually an order to  "Year One". This could be a viable alternative.
