CF,
is that part of the Colorado fires I'm hearing so much about? Are you safe?
Yep, safe on that one & the fire crews had it out by Monday. The weather was in their favor on that one. However, only 3 days later, some ignoramous decided to go shooting on the north end of the hill (the news guys are blaming this one on target shooters) & guess what…this one's a lot closer to home.
When I go shooting up there, I bring at least 3 gallons of water & a fire extinguisher, just in case I strike a spark, plus I don't just go blazing away into the brush. Whoever this was, obviously didn't think beyond step two. It's sad that some people don't seem to think beyond the end of their nose…I hope they don't declare my "range" off limits to shooters, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do. All it takes sometimes is one idiot to ruin a good thing for the rest of us.
So these shots are from the northern end of my vast estate () when I arrived home, looking east. My old camera doesn't like low-light shots & the evening ones are blurry.
It's funny, the wind is blowing to the left in these pics…you would think that the fire would probably not spread much to the right (south), but naww, the fire didn't give a damn, it gobbled up whatever was within reach & kept on going.
The lower light on the hill is a fire truck…marking his spot, or maybe he's just up there to be a flashy thing on the hill.
The flames don't look big from here, but when one of the helicopters flies into the area & proceeds to drop it's water load, the chopper sure looks like a little feller compared to it's surroundings. The evening winds have picked up a little, still blowing to the left (north).
The lower "ziggy" look is the neighbor's trailer in his driveway, reflecting a street light.
Sadly, the wind has picked up a lot this morning & it now smells like a big camp fire. I bet our whole hillside will be looking like a crispy hunk of charcoal before it's all done. There's only two homes that I know of that are in it's path, they are about 1/4 mile to the right, but the brush is low enough that I doubt they will be in too much danger.

I couldn't think of a better way to spend a fathers day with the kids. Congrats on raising them to enjoy the shooting sports. I've been following that fire on the news. It's a shame people don't think about what they are doing. Seems like every time I go to the local range I end up cleaning a mess someone left behind.
