Yea, I knew that would get some attention 
…
So yesterday at the gun show I was tallking to a vendor about DW's — he said he had one a long time ago he had to send to DW for repair due to butchered barrel nut/threads. He said he had the original BA at home, so of course I asked if he wanted to sell it….
He brought it to the show today and gave it to me for free–nice guy… Here's why some people shouldn't be allowed to touch tools….
I'm going top give Eric a shot at converting this to a 7.5V with no sight (if he is willing and when he has time). I don't think we can squeeze a sight between the vents. So, it would be a nice barrel to drill/tap. You never know what you are going to come across with DW's …

Can't argue with free!
Looks like a candidate for a Weaver/picatinny rail and a small reflex red dot sight.

I just had an idea ... 
... maybe even a good one !!! It would be MUCH simpler to machine off the end of the barrel shroud and convert this to an old school EXTERNAL NUT !!!
I could just use a modified EWK flash enhancer as the external nut ... (Eric's ears should be on fire about now...)

Send the BA this way Shoot, BA production is underway and its no problem to shorten yours! External nut...GREAT idea!
The flash amplifer...I think I have one left here...but there is gonna be a REAL comp nut coming here soon that if its what I'm planning on, is gonna acutally work.

We'll put a little thought into it, and come up with the "EWK conversion"... I have a factory DW scope rail I never used. An external nut would make the machining much easier (correct me if I am wrong). No sights needed if it is going to be scoped permanently. Maybe slot the shroud to reduce weight.... Yea, now it is a real project

Hmmmm..I have a "4.5 inch" VH squib victim BA I have been saving for 30 years and never knew why I kept it. Maybe another canidate.

How bad did a squib damage it? bulge in the barrel ? No way it should have hurt the shroud.

It was bad enough that the nut would come off, but there was no way the barrel and shroud would come apart.
They had to be cut off before the bulge to get it off. This was in 1981 IIRC. Back then we were trying to shoot fairly long range (100yards) and believed the way to do it was light bullets with all the 296 ball the charts would allow. Anyway, the first one probably did no damage, it was when the second forced it out that things got interesting.
