Ran some errands today that took me past the range.  So this afternoon I stopped to just plink a bit.  I took along my favorite little HS Sentinel 357 and my 741.  Hot afternoon, I had the place to myself.  A few guys up on the rifle range, but nobody on the pistol range.  As I was finishing the last cylinder of 41s I hear voices behind me.  I turn around and there are three guy all standing there with their hands over their ears.  One guy says "what the hell are you shooting?! its louder than the guys up on the rifle range."  I told them it was a Dan Wesson 41 mag and I was shooting 210gn XTPs over 17gn of 2400.  They said don't you mean a 44 mag, I said no, its a 41 mag.  I then showed them the gun and the rounds.  Only one of them had ever heard of a 41mag before.  They all agreed that it was 'one damn loud gun'.  I laughed all the way back to the truck.  I will admit that I thought those loads were loud but then I was holding the gun.  Apparently the 6" 741 with those rounds barks pretty loud.

BTW, had fun with both guns and I honestly think the HS has more recoil than the 741, probablly since its lighter and shorter barrel.

I wish I'd had the 445 along to show those guys what LOUD really islaugh.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Nice report.  I always draw a crowd when shooting my BFR w/  a brake.  Seems I cause some flinching on the firing line.  Nice report- glad you had a good time.

First time we shot my son's .445 SM (at an outdoor range), the entire line of pistol shooters stepped back and and looked. Many started drifting over even though the range was hot and they were losing time on the line.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Great report.  Shooting large diameter magnums is always a range stopper it seems as compared to the run of the mill .38's, and 9MM's that usually prevail in quantity.  Like Steve mentioned and you referred to, the 445SM is absolutely a head turner especially when loaded with H-110 and the ensuing fireball it throws.

my 460 xvr brought the S.W.A.T. team members from their training on the next range down to find out what was louder than their 308's.  Fun stuff!

X2 on the 460, mine reminds me of a quarter stick going off somewhere around the muzzle.

Imagine their actions/reactions if you had something chambered in a 30 Carbine.

We shooters have to remember there is a lot of firearms ignorance among the public, including those that go to ranges to shoot.

Fishing, hunting  outdoors, the rest with th exception of family time is just frittering ones life away

LouisB,

I recently added an AMT in .30 Carbine to the collection and boy it does let you know with a fireball when the trigger is pulled.  It is a "Blast" to shoot.

If the range is crowded, I always start off with the big boomers...it thins out pretty quick, then I have more room.

That is funny. The Supermags are real screamers and head turners. My .41 sounds like my .44mag

I've read the AMT .30 throws a fireball, BUT short of a 50 BMG nothing can compare to the concussion and blast of a .445 SM. Trust me!
