So I have several questions and hope some one or more than none can help. I recently purchased a DW .44 mag. and I'm going out on a limb here as i think it's a P744-VH 10/8/6 in and has both ported and non ported barrels for each shroud totaling 6 barrels.with zebra wood grip and DW hogue grip.  I picked it up for $900.

question 1 has any one ever seen or herd of this configuration ?

Question 2 did I over pay or get a good deal or the deal of the century ?

question 3 what's it worth?,

and 4 is this something I should be proud to pass down to my son ?

Welcome!  Sounds like a very good deal, not quite deal of the century, IMO.  Fine firearms are meant to be enjoyed together and then passed down.  That Dan IS a fine firearm.

Ron has been at this a long time and remembers when Dans were selling for a lot less. Probably would go for $400/500 more on gunbroker IMHO.  Better to leave to your son than Sell it and leave the money. Money can't shoot bullets.

I have to agree with the guys above.   Welcome to the DWF, and before anyone else hits you with this. post-pics.

Welcome,

First of all I am no expert and I do not want to come across as one. There are plenty of extremely knowledgeable guys here. You are in good hands.  However after reading G-paws post, now I too have questions...He mentions " i think it's a P744-VH?" isn't the P, notes that it came from an original PP? or is that only on the Serial #. Or a myth? I thought I read that this is what DW did to factory made PP? Also, didn't large framed pistol packs normally come with 2 BA's, a 6 and 8"?, correct?

It sounds like he has a SS 44 pistol pack with an extra 10" barrel, right? Did it come with the case, buckle and patch?

I don't feel you over paid at all, don't know about "Deal of the century" yet. As far as worth, depends on a little more info and I will let the others chime in on that. Defiantly pass it on to the son, we look forward to seeing him on hear someday.cool

dwf-welcome

You got a good deal. Maybe not the deal of the century, but a good deal, nonetheless.  Now all you need is the 4-inch set: VH4 barrel assembly with a spare ported barrel.

DWAS is about to bite you.

goodluck

Not sure I've ever seen a "P" as part of the Model or S/N.

As far as posting pictures, I host on Photobucket and post links, it's been working for me on DWF for years, and for a LOT of pictures (note that this is not necessarily preferred DWF method, but it works).

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I use Firefox as my browser and can actually copy and past photos from my photo editing/viewing software directly into my post. Once pasted, I can re-size by dragging the corner of the picture.
