What are your thoughts on rebluing a small frame DW? Would it devalue the gun, look better, cost involved, last long, mess it up, what do you think. Would you consider re-bluing one of your guns if the blue was faded or splotched?

I would do it if I had a gun that was in excellent condition mechanically and just needed a refinish. I have had several shrouds done and I was more than happy with the results. They all came back looking like new. Hotbluer was the bluing tech up at the Norwich factory and does the gun and shroud for around $80 plus shipping.

Holy crap.... I paid $170 and had to wait 6 months from a local guy!!!!

I have a rough .22 that should be heading to Mark (hotbluer) next week. Of course, I have been saying that since before Thanksgiving when I talked to him.

When you send a gun to Mark for re bluing is shipping complicated or expensive. Is a FFL involved? What method of shipping is best?
I'm thinking of buying a beater but do now have one yet so no pictures.

Mark is an FFL. You can ship to and receive from him for repairs.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That's what I thought too ! I will post some before and after pics. I'ts a shame
that I even have to send it in, gun was really in the 95%-97% condition and
then....well you won't believe what I did.

Talk to him again to today he said standard turn around time is 4 to 6 weeks,
but then said it should be sooner than that.
