Do you have an inventory of all your guns?  If so, where do you keep it?  What information do you include?

I keep my detailed inventory in my gun safe, in the safe deposit box at the bank and on my computer.  Some of you guys have so many that starting an inventory would be quite a task.  Also updating an inventory can be time consuming.  What about gun insurance above what homeowners insurance covers?

I use a freeware program: Gun Safe.  and then place a hard copy in my gunsafe...  That version is no longer available, but the fella recommends nm collector software which looks like it has all the stuff my program has:

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I use Pointblank Ballistics Software (free)  you can download it here;

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2009/04/versatile-point-blank-ballistics-software-is-free/

The only complaint I have with it is you can only print one page of weapons for some reason.  SO... I have it downloaded a few times PB1, PB2, PBDW, etc.

you can get about 60 weapons per page though.  It may be a glitch in my computer/printer/software, but I doubt it.

plus it has the ballistics software included.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Exactly, that's what the "member's collections" spot is for.big-grin

As of yet, I don't have any fancy way of keeping track of my guns. For each one, I have the sales receipt (with the s/n on that receipt) & a pic or two attached with a paperclip. Slap it into a small fireproof safe & that's the extent of my system so far. Maybe one day I'll get "hi-tech" about it.laugh

I keep a spreadsheet in Excel. Any time I update the list with an addition or subtraction, I place a new date on the spreadsheet and save it.  Therefore, I have all the old information saved as well.  I keep the spreadsheet on a flash drive and print out a copy to go in my gun safe with all of my NFA paperwork and tax stamps... big-grin

I keep it in a spreadsheet and hard copies in all the "important" places in case of computer failure.  Asd far as insurance, that is a good question.  I recommend discussing it with your agent.  Also be careful of your records for values.  I just had this discussion last year and the only way to receive full compensation through my insurance is to have hard proof of what was paid for a firearm, copy of the cashier's check stub, money order, etc.   Most homeowner's policies have rather small limits for the firearms section also.  Make sure you have limits that work if you have some expensive collectibles.

Used to do it, then started slacking and then just quit doing it all together.

Some go, some stay and I'll probably regret it someday.

I have an excel spreadsheet that I created. Have all the info and pictures. Also have purchased price and value. Right now I'm up almost 10k compared to purchase price and I have only been buying for about 4 years now.

I have taken pictures of each of my guns. I have a spread sheet with their name, model, and serial number. It's good to video each one too. I put everything on a disk. One disk goes into my safe and then inside a fire-proof box. A disk is stored at a relatives home etc.  I also keep 2 External Hard drives as a back up for all my files. Every computer melts down, it's just a  matter of time.

Remember if your computer has to go to the shop. They have access to everything on your computer even if you have passwords. Some computer shops have some unscrupulous employees sometimes.

FYI. If your computer is damage beyond repair. Make sure you take a hammer and obliterate the hard-drive. This keeps some computer geeks from recovering your hard drive. They can do it.

My stepson is my computer repair man if it ever needs it.  If he ever has to work on it I will go with it to his house.   broken-computer  I have some "net worth" information on it that he doesn't need to know.  He is in line to inherit most of my assets when I expire since he is the father of our only grandchild.

As far as hard-drive goes, one of my friends told me that he once had a secret romance on his computer.  After it was over he said he took his computer to his work, put it on a concrete floor, put on a pair of safety glasses and beat the crap out of the hard-drive with a sledge hammer.  Was pretty funny the way he told it.  Guess you would have had to be there.  laughing

Same here- each one is photographed and

info logged. I have a hard copy and a cd

to my buddy, who also has a copy of my will.

Most home owners policies will not cover collectibles

considered hobbies or work related, such as my

camera and studio equipment.  A separate policy is

needed...same for extensive jewelry.

I have State Farm homeowners insurance.  The homeowner policy covers $2,500 on guns after $1,000 deductible.  I have a rider for $5,000 that cost me $8 per year.  This covers a little less than half of the value of all my guns.  I definately need to upgrade the coverage, just have not got around to it.

Homeowners insurance companies in Connecticut don't like firearms and most will deny you any kind of coverage.  The standard list of questions is:

Do you have a dog?

What type?

Do you have any firearms?

and I've even heard:

Do you have any cats?

What kind?

Does the cat bite?

We went through 5 companies before we found Farm Family Casualty Ins which is OK with dogs and guns.  But if they realized the amount, and of the reloading etc, there might be some discussion about coverage.
