This was is the newsletter from my gun club. I'm posting it verbatim:
tagged on the wheel in the parking lot. The gangs
do this on wheels or bumpers at gun stores, shooting ranges, gun shows etc.
at a restaurant, hotel, or other location that's less
well guarded or under video surveillance, other gang
members spot the marker and break into the car for
a quick gun grab. This is so RAMPANT in San Antonio
where we were for a National shoot this summer, the
police chief of that county came out to brief the 400
participants of our competition. Too bad three teams
had already been victimized the first day. This is the
first I've heard of this in Denver. Please pass this
info along to your 2nd amendment list.
regarding the NSCA Nationals in San Antonio is correct, as
all of us who compete in sporting clays know. Competitors
there were having their vehicles marked with a small adhesive
dot on the rear license plate or rear bumper, then followed
for miles and having their vehicles quickly and efficiently
broken in to when parked for lunch etc. Some crews were
working the parking lot at the Nationals itself. 27 high end
shotguns were taken there recently. They know when
1400 shooters with high $$ competition guns are in town.
the Nationals. He and his father lost all their guns and
equipment while making a quick stop for lunch at a BBQ
place in Corpus Christi the month before.

Wow! Bad guy's are getting more clever everyday. Years ago I stopped putting NRA window decals on my vehicles for that very reason. I was just inviting some crook to break into it. Back when 9/11 happened I overheard a couple of guys talking about those "Stupid" terrorist's. I asked both of them if they could speak multiple language's or fly a jet liner. No they said. "Well they could" I replied. They are not stupid. Never underestimate your enemy at anytime. Anti gunner's preach about gun confiscation. The legal gun owner jumps through hoop's and red tape and back ground checks to get their gun's. The crooks just steal them from us. Like the old cartoon stated: Instead of outlawing gun's. Why don't we outlaw crooks?

Not to dispute anyone but if my memory serves me correctly, several months back the NRA (via the Rifleman magazine) put out that this story was a Hoax that had been floating around for a while. I can't be sure I remember this correctly but either way it always pays to be careful and to be aware of our surroundings.

I am not sure but I think LB may be right I think I heard before that it was a hoax. I would think that 'gang members' loitering around a parking lot where 1400 people were shooting would be noticed. However it very well could be true, as I am wrong frequently.
Either way, it does remind us all to be aware of what could happen. I don't put NRA stickers, or any type of gun or hunting sticker on my vehicles for that reason, I don't want to advertise the possibility of firearms being in my unattended vehicle.
I have 2 kids in college, so I put lots of college stickers on my truck, that way everybody knows I'm broke!

Yeah, sounds like an urban legend. Remember the don't flash your lights at another car with their's off. They are gang members and will shoot at you! But I agree about not having bumper stickers that could bring unwanted attention also.

The specific information in the OP may or may not be accurate. The message is accurate and timely, however. No gun decals, no NRA stickers, no "Take it from my cold, dead hands", etc. stuff for me.
Protect your privacy, especially as regards gun ownership. This is one reason that DWF is pretty specific about not posting personal identifying information in your DWF Profile, as well as deleting email and telephone numbers in posts.
None of this is an attempt to be "dictatorial", all of it is meant to reduce our profile as a Forum, and for our Members, as potential phishing and identity opportunity targets.
My personal suggestion is to have a "junk" email (@gmail, for example) for public consumption, and if I need to give out a telephone number for something that I am not 100% comfortable with, it's my cell number. I have an email address set aside specifically for all shooting related activity, including Forums, websites, etc.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I hope these militia people are aware of this and a few vigilantes couldreally have a ball with thou's kind and were are the cops ? Tell me they don't have the resources to put these kind of gangs away for good it's called sting , those kind should be easy to follow them like they do on those druggy bust get in and take the hole bee's nest and take the honey/guns out of there hands.

I have a DWF sticker on my work trucks back glass. I know the BG's won'tknow what that is .
Looking forward to the day a DWF brother ask about it !

LOL, me too! I have one of those ubiquitous round stickers with the cursive DW logo in it. I've had several people ask about it and I usually just say "I'm not sure" or "it was on there when I got the vehicle".
If you don't already know, I'm not telling.

For all the reasons given above, I don't put any stickers on any of my vehicles. Simply don't want to give anyone any reason to give me the business.

If it were true, I could very easily see some irked folks taking the Q-ship approach, leaving with a marked SUV and parking it within easy range of a group of ticked-off avengers waiting for the looters to arrive.
Wouldn't it be great if all wars could be fought just by the a-holes who started them?
