Chuck,
Having purchased four safes and awaiting delivery of the fifth, I've discovered the features and costs vary as widely as those of guns and cars. You can really jack up the price with options like interior lighting, built-in dehumidfiers and cypher locks.
I think the most important aspects are the number and diameter of the active bolts, the ga. thickness of the exterior body, layers of fire protectant and fire protection (minutes and temp.).
I know what its like to buy on a budget, but sometimes ya gotta ask yourself how much is what your protecting worth and what, if any of it can be replaced. I've found a good gun safe to be a deterent to theft and some added protection against fire, but I carry a separate rider on my homeowners insurance just for the guns. Just something else to consider.

Looks nice. One important item, does it include delivery?
I bought a Liberty safe years ago from a local retailer that included delivery.
Here is a link to a Liberty that might be slightly better for the same money:

Holds more guns, longer fire rating.

I have one of the older versions of that safe with a mechanical combination lock. I bought it from Adademy. Seems like a nice enough safe. However given the oppertunity to buy a new safe, I would pick one with the door hinges on the outside. The doors have bolts on all for sides, so driving the hinge pins out wont allow access. What the external hinges offer is the ability to swing the door open a full 180 degrees. A good fire rating would high on my list as well.

Bro-in-law got the Cannon TS6040 at the TS black friday sale. Got it home and the
handles were missing and two shelves broken. He called Cannon next day, Took
them 7 weeks to send parts, now one of the new shelves is cracked. He
called them about it last Tuesday and they have yet to return his call. Only
good thing he had to say about his experience with Cannon was his first
communication with them was a American rep who spoke english well.

Whatever you get bolt it in securely, Theifs take them and crack into them later.
You've got to be kidding me? At 700 lbs plus contents, moving everything in the way between the safe and a driveup door, theft is not going to happen.

Now there is a good idea I hadn't considered. I would also suggest registering your used safe with the manufacturer so when needed you can get help.
For Liberty, you need a signed notorized letter (form letter from website) to get the combo and/or keys etc.

Wrong. Walking off with the safe is very common. Talk to some LEO's. As long as they know there's a safe they will come prepared.

It is irresponsible to think whatever you have in your house is safe from a burglary. It is one thing to protect your investment (through an insurance rider; exacting inventory with pictures; and off-site storage of such), but yet another to safeguard against theft.
My safes are bolted to the floor. I have a commercial steel door with a deadbolt and anti-pry plate; I put a heavy grate over the window on the inside (it is bolted into the cinderblock wall); the door and window are alarmed and the room has a glassbreak sensor, motion detector and smoke alarm all wired to a system separate from the house.
Is it costly? YES. Is it less costly than a major theft and the hassle with and insurance company, local law enforcement, and BATFE/NFA? Without a doubt.

See above photos. I always have trouble post pics from Foxfire and text in the same post.
OK now. I guess I'm irresponsible!!! However everybodys living
situation is different. I live in the sticks, with an 800 foot long
driveway through ledge like a canyon. One way in, one way out. There
are no expensive bolted doors, no commercial steel doors, no anti pry
plates, no heavy grate over the window bolted to the cinder-block wall,
no alarm, glass-break sensor, no motion detector. But what I do have
has worked very well for more than 30 years. Are you trying to keep
people out or are you trying to keep yourself in???
About 30 plus years ago we had a break in. Christmas presents were
taken. Shortly after that another break-in, this one appeared
desperate. Wet cloths on the floor, wood stove door open, and a set of
my cloths were missing. After that I purchased a male German Shepherd
and have never had another break-in since.

Yes, she is very possessive of me, and keeps a close watch out for any intruders. That is why at that moment, I was working in the garage and she is outside on a slight hill watching for anyone sneaking around. Not that there would be anyone around.
BTW, there is a 12 gage 3-1/2" mag within reach.
But, not to hijack the thread too much
I called Liberty to get a new key and they had all my info registered from the warrentee card I mailed in about 10 years ago. My combo tumbler knob can be locked with a key to keep it from turning. Lost the key years ago and wanted a new one. A quick phone call and faxed the info, should have key in a week.
I did find some safes on Craig's List today. Shoots idea could be useful. I might expand with another safe.

Just trying to ensure nobody shoots my dogs, pries open my safe while I'm away. I'm not sure I would adverties in a public forum that I have no safety measures other than a dog keeping my property safe.
When there is discussion of illegal guns on the street, most likely many were obtained by a home invasion or robbery. Hollywood glamorizes automatic weapons in use by street gangs, but given there cost and difficulty to obtain legally (a lot of paperwork, background checks and long wait), I'd guess if they have them, they stole them.
A good dog and moderate safe are fair security measures, but I, the same as you would treat an uninvited guest to a taste inhospitality - assuming I'm home. A house in the sticks is an inviting target as the rats have to leave the inner city in search of their in-gotten booty. But, someone breaking into your house costs me nothing. Someone breaking into my house, well that's my business.

Point well taken, but I just realized you're in Florida. Lots of crime there. Here in CT, I can count on one hand the 'cities' that have murder. Break ins are a different story though. Most are done by idiot kids and/or young adults that don't know which end of a prybar to use. On a second note, there is most likely someone home all the time.
