I went to the gun show in Birmingham, Al today. I found a blued DW 44 mag with a 10 inch barrel and a 4 inch barrel. The gun and barrels were at least 95%. There was no box, wrench, gap ga., ....... nothing else. There was a minor turn ring and a very nice grip. He made me an out the door price of $600. I couldn't buy it. I had just spent $1,200 on a AR-15 and 500 rounds of ammo.
I did get to meet my son for the first time in 27 years and had a great day.
Also I haven't had a job in 14 years, retired in 1998. Was talking to the guy who owns the local gun shop in Alexander City. He offered me a full time or a part time job in his shop. I took the part time starting next Thursday. I probably will never draw a payday but my gun collection will really grow.

Sounds like a great day, the best part is certainly re-connecting with your son, I'm very happy for you.
For me, getting a job in the funshop would be a negative cashflow situation, something I need to avoid right now.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Now, YOU get to be the crusty old geezer in the gun shop. I wouldn't mind that job when I retire.
When I handed back my Dan after shooting it during the 10 day wait, the old geezer behind the range counter was checking in three young guys. He hefted it and said to them, "when you grow up, you can have a Dan Wesson three fifty seven magnum."
Have you noticed, there's always one.

After the conversation my son and I had we plan to get together for sure. Just don't know when. His job has irregular hours and days, not always off on weekends. I expect we will go to the next gun show in B'ham in May. He will be 42 in May. He wants another AK-47. He sold his in 2005 when money got tight. I'll probably buy him one but I don't know anything about AK-47. I'll probably let him help me buy one for myself and then give it to him.
As for my new job, if you want to call it that, I'm not sure what my duties will be but the shop only sells guns, bows and hunting clothing and does gun repair (owner does all repair). How tough can that be? I told him I would clean the restroom. We are scheduled to meet Thursday morning before the store opens and talk about what he expects. So far we haven't talked about salary. I'm not in it for the money but money is always nice. The more money the more guns!!

The new job went well today but my feet are killing me. I stood up for nearly 9 hours today with about 20 minutes of sitting. I eat on the job and get paid for it. Mostly I worked the counter. We had a good number of customers and stayed busy. It seems like everyone is buying handguns. The cash register is pretty hard to learn. Seems like everybody wants to check out at one time. Credit cards, debit cards, lay-a-ways, etc. They tell me no one learns it in one day. I had a great time all day. Love my job. I get a work schedule one week in advance. I work Mon., Wed., and Fri. next week (about 27 hours). I think that will be enough for my feet.

I have no problems with customers as far as selling guns. I'm pretty familiar with anything we sell. It's the boss always looking down my neck on the register. If I could get just 15 minutes by myself to logically comprehend what each screen does then I would be fine. I don't expect to learn where every item in the store is and what it does in one day. Ammo, for instance, people want to know what turkey load everybody is using. I have no idea since that was my first day on the job. I don't mind asking other clerks questions.
The owner told me last night that he had been listening to my conversations with customers and was pleased. This morning I am questioning my decision to take the job. I don't need the money to live. I need it to fund my habit. LOL I haven't worked in 10 years. When I worked at Alabama Power there was nothing I didn't know about my job. And my bosses through the years had to come to me for answers. This job is just so new to me and I'm not as comfortable as I was in my previous jobs. The bottom line is that I'm not in my comfort zone. It will come or I will be gone. I'm not a quitter.
