Went to a big show today, bid dissapointment to me that is. After paying $8 to park and another $8 to get in, the only Dan I saw was a VERY well used 14 porkchop 6" with a turn ring all the way thru the bluing and a Barney cylinder and part of frame, with 'powerwood' grips that were worn out. He had it chained to the table and the hammer zip tied down. Asking $400! I asked to see it, and to be able to cycle the action. He said he didn't allow that. He said it was a rare gun and in great shape and he wasn't letting anyone 'play' with it. I told him I needed to check the timing and lockup and I couldn't do that with the hammer tied down. He said I couldn't. I said, in that case I'll give you $200. He said NO WAY! Best he could do was $415 out the door. I said for that kind if money he'd have to let someone 'play' with it or he'd be taking it home, and I walked away.
Got some powder and primers, not worth the price of admission.
Seemed to be a huge Ruger presence there, must have been some kind of specialty event, I don't recall ever seeing it at that show before.

Working a lot of weekends really gets in the way of more important things like going to gun shows but it sounds like I didnt miss a lot there. I cant believe the guy wouldnt let you 'play' with the Dan! Who buys anything without checking it over first? He is probably one of those crotchety old bitchers that sits there all weekend complaining to his buddies about taxes, new truck prices, young people, or whatever, then complains that nobody bought his overpriced crap which is the same crap he totes around to every gun show.

That about sums up this guy. He didn't have all that much stuff to sell and it wasn't top notch either. I only asked to see the gun because I don't have a 14 porkchop and it was the ONLY Dan in the whole building. Realistically it wasn't worth more than $275-$300 in it current condition. Rode hard and put away wet, comes to mind.
You didn't miss anything from a Dan Wesson perspective at least. Now if you wanted a Ruger or a 'black' gun, there would have been something there.

I swore off gun shows last year but still find myself attending every one in the area. (about every 2 months). Sometimes I can find some pretty good stuff at reasonable prices but some of the guys (mostly private sellers) are a joke. One guy has been toting around a 741 for the past year - he started off at $800 back when they were bringing $600, and now he's up to $1k and still toting it around! I just laugh every time I pass his table.

Just a guess, but Lonwolf may be a little grumpy about Gun Shows. OTOH, we don't have gun shows in CT, I have gone to one very crappy one in five years. Fortunately, within an hour drive I have at least eight gunshops that are very willing to let me thoroughly check out a gun before buying.
A couple of CT LGS guns have sold to DWF Members, and I don't even get a finders fee!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I guess I am mostly grumpy because I miss so many local gun shows due to that pesky thing called my job. Really we are fortunate in PA because there are quite a few gun shows within driving distance regularly. And I have several good local gun shops of various size and they all let me 'play' with their stuff, although Dan Wessons dont seem to show up in them rarely.

It is getting tougher to find DW's in this area as well, and that never used to be the case. I think there is some Internet Forum out there educating shooters on what a good revolver this is.
Darn those guys!

That bunch should be reported or something!
I've all but given up on gun shows for awhile. Still waaay too crowded and people asking (and getting) crazy prices for crap.

if you find one...what's your plan?

I must agree. Many of our reading members experiecenses (sp?) have maked me feel guilty that I don't attend every gun show local to to me. I haven't attended one since good 'ol Barry got re-ellected by the narrowest of margins recently. I figured everybody and their mother would be there...and from what I've heard, that's not far off... I haven't been to the range in months...everything I currently have on hand is for a FTHTSA scenario.
