Well.. I am not sure how I want to convey what I am going to convey, but please know that I am simply trying to impart information to those I consider friends without being disrespectful to any other group of people.
The impetus for this post was this listing on GB:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=196587507
(mollysmine)
I asked the seller for an address since he was local to me and he relented to give it to me. It is a pawn shop (franchise). The man was very generous with his information and very pleasant (that is not always the case). But I did want to let you all know how this particular GB seller works, plus other tidbits.
First the gun above is visually in poor shape, much more so than the picture let on. The case is horrible, and covered in mud… not dust.. mud. The gun has some rust on the shroud. However, the gun does lock up well.. but then it is a DW!
The man could not pull the gun once it is listed on GB, per GB rules. He showed me another SS 15-2 gun only, actually it was in better shape than the PP, but he could not sell it to me either. The reason? There are five pawn shops, and he is the hub for brokering the guns on GB. Once another shop sends him a gun, he must place it on GB. Now this is neither good nor bad, its just info. I do not think the guy is dishonest – he is there to make a profit, and GB can get him prices that he otherwise cannot get either in his shop or even in our state ( conversely S&W always sell well here). The point is if you graze GB often then you will see more guns from him, when you do, realize these are from a pawn shop, and of three DW's he showed me they reflect "that". He is good at taking pictures that seemingly may not indicate the overall condition of the gun. Again I do not wish him ill, he is simply making his profit as best he can, and if he doesn't show every little scratch, rust spot or ding, well buyer beware.
The pawn shop is about 20 minutes from my work. Therefore, if he is selling something that you really really just can't live without, I am willing to run by the shop after work and check it out for you. I am not a gunsmith, I am a novice … but I can tell a rusty well worn gun from a "neat gun in very good condition".
Do understand that he KNOWs he can get good money on GB and therefore he is not willing/able to let a walk-in come in and dicker him down from that possible gold mine.
