Went to the York,PA gunshow today with my daughter. Overall it was disappointing, more non gun things there than usual and some empty tables. Saw three Dan's, two 8V 22's and an 8V early 15-2 with scope, priced fairly but nothing special.
Now a question, we looked at a number of guns for my daughter to use for CCW. She is very petite so what ever she gets will have to be small to be able to be concealed. We looked at a number of .380's and 9mm's ranging from the Ruger LCP 2 and LC9, small Sig's, a few Walther's and the one she liked best, the Kimber Micro 9. We were just looking and I want her to shoot examples of all of them to get the feel for trigger, recoil etc. In talking with an FFL buddy of mine at the show, he mentioned that he had heard some negative comments about Kimber recently and told me to do some research. So I'm asking the membership here to give me your experiences with the new Kimber Mirco 9 specifically and Kimber in general. I have no direct experience with Kimber but know that they have had a good reputation. Wondering if they cheapened their line up in order to be more competitive with the polymer guns.
Thanks
Forgot to mention that I scored some new 375 Win mag brass to cut down for the 375 SM and also at long last I found some Acurate Arms 1680 powder. I have been trying to find it in my area for years and was told by one of the largest shops in the area that even they couldn't get any. Found a guy at the show from VA selling it so I got the 8 pound jug, that should last a while. Now to go load some 414 SM rounds and maybe some 445's as well

I have three limbers. a 1911 and 2 solo's. 1911 runs great, never a prob. got the solos because of their design and size. THEN I heard how they were jam-o-matics. I believe this came from no-one reading instructions. they specified bullet weights, and were very specific about re-assembly. guns run like a champ. 1000' of rounds with no prob's. I know there a lot of Kimber haters out there because of their own ignorance. Just my experience with Kimber. can't help you with the micro. sorry. I can't believe they are as bad as people might be saying. NO gun is fault free IMHO.
3If you can find a Taurus 731M with a snub nose they are awesome. 6 rounds of 32 mag is better than 380 in my opinion. Very accurate, little recoil and small enough for a gal to carry. Just avoid Federal ammo. The cases split. Hornady critical defence are awesome and 32 S&W long for practice. They are pricey and only found on Gunbroker probably but worth it. They will fire every time!!!!
I went to the local gunshow yesterday. Never find anything but ammo. I have a Tanfoglio TZ 75 series 88 with a 9mm barrel and a 41 AE barrel. $2 a round if you can find it. I found 3 bags of 50 rounds for 20 a bag. New cases. And another fellow had some 40 cal with oil stains on the cases for $10 for 50. Good for practice.

It has been a long time since I've seen/heard any real negative on Kimber quality. You say that your daughter is very petite, the Micro 9 looks a little bulky for a smaller female to carry except in a purse. In addition, I don't think it has a grip safety and a pretty small thumb safety. Safely managing this gun with a smaller hand will take a lot of practice.
You mentioned LCP and LC9 (LCP is actually my personal easy, grab and go gun) both very good choices, DAO with no thumb safety to manage. Both are also a slimmer profile and lighter weight. LC9 has 9 round magazines available.
Food for thought
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have an LCP and LC9 that I carry often for all the reasons you mentioned. I think she will probably find that a polymer frame gun will be needed for on body carry and even in a carry purse/bag. I liked the dry fire trigger pull on the newer LCP 2, a big improvement over the LCP. Our next step is to go to the range and shoot my guns as well as rent some that I don't own so she can experience firing them and see what suites her best.

I have two Kimber 1911's and they both run like a freight train ... just keep on going. After several thousand rounds, one of them that I bought used, had the ejector become loose and their CS was excellent. They sent me a new replacement part and a take-down tool and user manual that was missing, all at no charge.
Follow the factory specified ammo requirements for the Solo and it will rock too. I've no experience with the Micro yet, but I'm watching public feedback and reaction. Just because a company puts out a great product does not mean everything they make is the same.
For concealed carry personal protection, I suggest forgetting the .380 ACP and stick to 9mm. For basically the same handgun package size, the ballistic performance between the two cartridges is huge.
My personal input is the solo is very ammo sensitive does not like the heavy weights in 9mm. I do have a 9mm 1911 with the 3" barrel (ultra carry 11 )and have not had any issues except in finding extra magazines. I also have the colt defender in .45acp with the 3" barrel. I believe colt makes the new agent in 9mm that has good reviews but seems hard to find.
My 2 cents. I agree with Ole Dog as far as revolvers go.

I've always read and heard that the best carry/self defense weapon is the one you feel the most comfortable and proficient with. Comfortable for me is a Taurus 709 slim. When I need just a little pocket protection I have a Beretta 950 BS 25 ACP. I picked up the Taurus equivalent awhile back, the PT 25.
A small 9mm and smaller .25ACP may not have huge stopping power, but I feel very confident with them, both carrying and shooting.

if you find one...what's your plan?

Yep if it's a pistol for concealed carry the Taurus 709 slim has been vetted by Guns and Ammo... If I wanted a pistol for CC this would be it. I like my revolvers.
Endeavor to persevere,
Press on regardless.
