The purple frames can be re-blued but if you want a coating, I'd have Fusion Firearms do a Yukon coating- the same that is on the Alaskan Guide Special guns. He has some other coatings as well. Bob Serva will do it right! He has an interest in DW firearms....
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I evaluated finishes for a project a couple years ago, and went with Hard Chrome (HC). It's still one of the most durable finishes on the market today. Robar is a nickel with teflon. When the next project comes around, I'll do it again - HC. The silver-looking pack that pops up on the top banner is HC. One thing to note...you mentioned picking up a "well used DW". Please note that the quality of your finish will only be as good as the underlying base you're plating. So if your gun has nicks and dings before plating, it's going to have the same nicks and dings after you plate it also unless they're brushed or buffed out. Pay really close attention to surface prep. before you have it plated
