Have you ever noticed that almost every self respecting die hard shooter and collector, no matter how devoted he is to a certain brand of firearm. Even those that stand upon the mountain tops and shout to the heavens above that their brand of firearm is the greatest under heaven and on earth. Be it Dan Wesson, S&W, Glock, Sig, Winchester, Remington etc. They have somewhere in the back of their safes or closet's, lurking in the corner. Is a Ruger 10/22 semi auto .22 rifle or a Mark 1 2 or 3 .22 pistol . Are they just great gun or what ? Affordable, rugged, dependable and ever so much fun. These two guns are part of a very few that just pay for themselves!

I would agree with you. The Ruger 10/22 rifle and Mark series pistol have got to be two of the most widely sold rimfires of all time. I bought both in the late 80's and still have them. I fixed up the 10/22 with a Choate pistol grip stock with a 30 rd. mag and it's a blast to shoot. I have since added a Ruger 45/22 with a Paclite threaded aluminum upper with a Silencerco suppressor - another fun one to shoot. Without a doubt, the traditional Ruger rimfires are a staple for everyone's safe!! I'll post up a couple pics when I get a chance.

I've owned both, and they are great guns. I had owned a 10-22 for a LONG time, and gave it to my son. I know he still has it, and it is now one of those long term projects in transition to a pretty specialized, tricked out 10-22 with lots of specialized add-ons.
I owned a MKII Target Competition for several years, and it was upgraded with with the Volquartsen internals and a scope. It became such a big, heavy .22 that I didn't like shooting it (my fault for going overboard on it) that I sold it off.
Both good guns, and it wouldn't surprise me if I added a nice 10-22 to the mix again sometime.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Would love to see some of those tricked out Rugers. The wildest one or two if you will that I saw was at a gun show many moons ago. A dealer had two 10-22's mounted together side by side in an anti-air craft type weapon. It had a crank trigger mechanism that actuated both guns at the same time. It had a single pistol grip at the rear. Looked like it should be mounted on a battle ship. I love my DW's but I must say in todays economy and even before, my Mark 3 and my 10-22 get shot a whole lot more than any gun I own.

Got me on that one, sort of . I have had a 10/22 for a long time and it is a great rifle, My dad owns a Mark 1 but I have had it the last twenty years to use as a back-up when the Smiff 41 throws operational fits during our bullseye weekly shoots. I actually just got finished using the Mark 1 after three months waiting on S&W to repair the 41, Great thread and yes even greater guns.

I know many people in which case that is very true but I have never owned either one of those guns, I have a savage boltaction .22 that I will never replace or give up. As for a .22 pistol my first and only one is a S&W 22A and agian I don't think I could ever give it up for another lol

Don't know if it's true or not, but I heard Ruger sued AMT over this gun. Like Glock sued S&W over the Sigma pistol.
