Fake.
Explain how this is a fake, please. I'm not an expert at this sort of thing but it looked awfully real to me. I'd be interested in knowing type of steel he hit that shrugged off a 50 BMG?
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

Its all in the timing.
Time from firing to *ding* is about double what the time from the *ding* to the hat popping off. Do a quick bit of math & you'll see the 2800 or so FPS (decreasing) at the muzzle will take a few seconds to go 1,000 yards. Then it hits the steel plate, loosing energy, & is "sprung" back at the shooter because of the springiness of the plate. The time returning should be at least the same as the outward trip or longer. The theory I've heard is it was a gag (fake) with the shot to target being normal & the hat pulled off from behind by an unseen "assistant" using something like fishing line.
The steel they use is something like 1 1/2" thick armor plate, because they want the target to survive as many hits as possible. Its quite possible to have a jacketed round "do a U turn" if the very thick plate is cratered & the bullet gets "caught" in an existing crater.

I watched in closely and did a few pause and plays and just before the earphones come off, you can see something hit the ground in front of the shooting bench. It sure looks like a ricochet.
