Several times in the past year, I have had the opportunity to chat with my son on the DWF Firing Range. The cool part is that he is deployed in the Persian Gulf, and I have "talked" with him from there and Australia (R&R) when I never expected to be able to.
To paraphrase MasterCard- Priceless
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That is very cool. I wish I could have talked to my family in real time when I was in the Navy. I had to sit out there myself for a couple of months at a time. That has to be great for him to be able to talk to his family. It's worth a ton cause you sure miss home after being out there a while. Be sure to let him know that we are grateful to him and the military.

Gotta reply, although a bit late on this thread.
On the Cutter Rush in the early '70's, we had a hamshack in the MST lab. The first class radioman had procured a ham ticket just before we left SFRAN for Alaska, so we had phone patches for whole tour. I didn't get my ham ticket until after I was out of the Guard, but sure appreciated the patches while way out in the Aluetians.

my wife and i have a son who is in the air force. he is a crew chief for the f-16.cool huh!
he is currently over in iraq for the next 7 months. we talk to him on his only day off-wednesday. he works from 12;00 noon until midnight the rest of the week. we use skype to talk to him every wednesday. he signed up for 6 years. i guess he will inherit my arsenal of guns when i kick off. we are very proud of him. i have to admit that i almost come to tears every time i hear of one of our young kids being killed. even if you don't support this war i think we should all support these young men and women in the armed forces. they are our fellow americans and our future. god bless all of them.Â

Please extend to your son our thanks and wishes for his continued safety. My wife left her cellphone on continuously for the 14 months our son was in the Persian Gulf, just to make sure to never miss a call. Once he got home, after the first time she actually shut it off, it wouldn't ever turn on again.
