I'm looking to get a strong-side holster for my blue 15-2. It will be for using in IDPA, so I'd rather it not have a strap over the back.
What are some good holsters and/or holster materials that won't be too hard on the finish?

I know nothing about IDPA, but thought you at least deserved a reply, so here are my two cents. I like leather. The cheap canvas/coldura models are OK but that is all OK. The rigid ones you see a lot of these days I can't comment on as I have little to no experience with them.  A quality leather holster will take good care of your gun and if you use one enough to wear out the blue consider yourself lucky that you get to shoot that much. Just my thoughts.

I've bought a pretty nice looking 4" barrel for my blue 15-2, but was wondering if a revolver used for competition is going to get much wear on the frame, or mostly just the end of the muzzle?

I have found a pretty cheap used barrel that has the wear on the end of muzzle already, but if my frame is going to get the same type of wear, I'll just get me another DW later in my life.
