If done properly and high quality, it should not adversely affect value. If the parts currently look like crap, it may even improve value.
Properly is the key word I would think as DW's had such a beautiful finish.
And the difference between Monson and Palmer is quite stunning.
Are they Monson or Palmer guns,Stinger ??

I have lots of opinions, I am glad you asked for one. Most fine firearms are diminished. In value by rebluing. If they are in rough shape they may be upgraded but a reblued Smith or Colt will never be as valuable as a non reblued example. Dan Wesson small frame guns are an exception to that rule. The sideplates always are a different hue than the frame even when not readily apparent. A Dan that looks uniform in blueing will look very different in strong light such as sunlight. A good polish and blueing job on the sideplate or shroud would be indistinguishable from the original condition. Dans don't have the trademark, prancing colt or protruding roll pins of Smiths or Colts that indicate a reblue. I am talking strictly about a sideplate and shroud, not the frame.

I am 100% in concurrence with Ole Dog's input here. When you're talking about a collectible Colt, S&W or the like you need to carefully consider the effect on value. Never reblue an an antique and modern guns may be a gamble. While DW's have appreciated greatly in the past 5 years and are collected by a small group of aficionados, the brand it not really in a "collectible" category across the industry. A used std. model 15-2 will, for the present time, always be just that. If you can blue it up and make it look nice, you'll certainly get a few more $$ for it than in its current condition with the scuffed up side plate. Most blue DW's end up being bi or tri-color anyway by the time the frame, side-plate and shroud age. If you want the gun to look better, go ahead and blue it

Ok Ole Dog and harly. Do you have anybody you can recommend to re-blue a Dan including the frame and cylinder? I followed a link here to a guy that was a bluer for Dan for a while but his link is dead. I have one I picked up that I would like to restore so I want someone that is good.

I have never had work done by Ford's, but I have seen very good things about them on several websites. If I needed any refinishing that my local gunsmith could not handle, Ford's would be my choice
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
