I understand that if it looks too good to be true, etc. but saw a listing on Armslist for a Dan. Similar listings are flagged as a scam. if you want to see it, look at it in PA.  I'm not bitting. Just need an education. I would rather buy local/hands-on or someone with a good review. lets hear it......please

Could you post a link to the auction in question?  I'm looking at the PA Dan Wesson listings and I don't see anything that jumps right out and says SCAM.  Now that's not to say that one or more are not, but which one did you feel was bogus?

Unless it's posted somewhere else it seems legit but on Armslist, you can't be too careful.  I'm in PA so I messaged the guy, lets see what he says about the gun.  I asked for more pics with the crane open and a picture down the bore, so if he doesn't have the gun, he won't get me any pics.

I messaged the guy a week or so ago and told him I was interested in it (I really was) ....

"Hi - I may be interested in your SuperMag...would you be available to talk sometime? Thank you."

Reply:

"Yeah.what do you really want to do."

I didn't reply and never heard from him again.  I don't have time for such nonsense.

Found it, thought the description match something I'd read. Here's link to sold gun with same picture in listing.

I have only ever bought two guns off Armslist, it's like the wild west on that site, seems like every other listing is bogus.  They seem a little slow to take down scam listing as well.  A few years ago, I noted a gun for sale that was one I had bought off another auction site months earlier. The scammer was reusing the same pics as the original ones from the auction I won.   I reported it and got a terse email telling me that I was making a serious accusation and that I should be careful abut doing so.  I responded that I had the gun (which has a very unique shroud on it) on my desk in front of me and that I wasn't the one listing it for sale, so they had an open and shut case of fraud on their hands.  Never heard anymore from them, but the listing disappeared.

Buyer Beware really applies on Armslist.

On Armslist, I've never bought from an unregistered user or without asking for additional photos. Additionally, I always pay with USPS MOs unless we've done business before.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

ALWAYS request to speak to the seller to discuss the sale.  That will weed most of them out.  The ones that do talk in conversation you can usually tell right away which is a scam and which is not.

Asking for a simple pic of the gun on top of a copy of the mornings newspaper is an easy way to verify possession and is good for both parties.

Thank you for all the info. I'm sure many besides myself have learned a lot.

Speaking of scams I think I may have found something really odd on gunbroker.  I got interested in the "nickel" 445 (the one people were discussing here) , a .357 barrel shroud, and a cz rami (as all semi auto 9mm).  So I watched them.  All of them sold (the rami went for way too much money).  And now they are all back up.  Here are the current listings and the old one for the rami that I still had in my watch list.

the shroud

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/625415711

I

the rami ones

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/626055580

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/623792342

And the 445

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/626125651

So so I start poking around at the sellers' feedback and one guy has a ton of "buyer" feedback and no seller feedback even though he has 20 items up for sale and 82 feedback points ( the guy selling the 445).  The other two look ok but it's just odd.  Is it possible that all three previous buyers backed out and I just wandered into an odd coincidence?   I sent a message to the 445 guy just to see if he/she is real.

That makes sense.  I had deleted the first one from my watch list.

Yes- that one would be going back to Bob at DW before I even shot it.  So there's another $200 to bank in off the bat.  Talk about hand cannon, though.  🙂
