For those who usually do not monitor the oceans for storm, we keep a constant eye on them here in Florida. We are watching a rather large system which is a Category 4 (Winds 131-155 mph) going westerly below Jamaca and Haiti/Dominica. A front may make this rascal turn north, towards FL, which we do not want to see.
I learned ten years ago with Vilma, that having a generator with provisions was necessary, and we were, for two weeks without power. We now have a two year old home made to code to withstand a cat 2-3, made of concrete cinder bolo and nice sturdy shutters. Lots of food, fuel and H2O.

Drifting more Easterly I think ...
Thursday 11:30am
Cat 4 coming up the coast - 140 mph winds - if we are luck and it stays 40-60 miles off the coast, we may only see 70mph winds.
All buttoned up. Generator ready, uses lp gas, I have 4 15lb containers….just need to run refrigerator freezer, and a small AC window unit at night for the bedroom. I'm hopping good for 4-5 day. Plenty of food, H2o, cat litter/food,wine. All laundry is done<<<lots of people don't think of this.
Shit hits the fan tonight, 2pm tomorrow is DDay. Been throughout this ten years ago and went without power for 14 days…keep a ten day supply of food & water all the time. BBQ grill for cooking with LP. Hot showers will be missed. The house is new, concrete block construction, came with shutters, went up in a snap for a pro like me. Helped several neighbors who were clueless and now know how to get-em-up. We sit high and dry. Took pics of exteriors for documentation.
I am concerned that I am down to only 1,000 rounds of 9mm…;-)

Hunker down and hang on. Receiving evacuees (Family) from Savannah myself . Going to he a house full for several days. My day job is emergency management at a hospital and that is a real circus right now finding places for hospital patients leaving the coast. Hoping it will swing out to sea and give everyone a break.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.
Cops found out that I have 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammo…..they deputized me!
Amazing ride Friday night!!! Don't know how but the power kept flickering and stayed on. House is fine, yard is fine. Most of the homes in our little hamlet are still without power. Lots of trees down…storm surge was pretty impressive…logo on pushed up and over seawall into streets and parking lot. really bad beach erosion in Vero, some roads collapsed. Lots of street signs twisted or gone. Very lucky. Loooong 48 hours.

Good to see that you are hanging in, prepared, and surviving.
We went through Hurricane Gloria (category 4) here in Connecticut, shortly after moving here. Gloria swept through in late September, our son was born early in July. For those doing the math, all I can say is the power and cable TV went out, we had to find our own entertainment.
Beware the aftereffects of a Hurricane
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm back. Lots of wind and rain, but no damage to the homestead. The city is trashed. Oak trees uprooted everywhere and power lines scattered for miles and miles. We lost power early Friday morning and just got it back a little while ago .. so only down for 36-hours. Power guys are awesome !!!

Glad you made it !!
Hope everyone along the East coast is doing well also. Looks like N.E. is getting the begging of the leftovers.
Doesn't look like the boomerang is going to happen now.
SIZE DOES MATTER
We fared better than Stinger. I am 40 miles further west. We never lost power and the winds were no more than a summer storm albeit much longer. Small branches, dead branches, Spanish moss and leaves like a carpet on the yard. NO TREES Down. We feel very lucky. I Still have PTSD from 2 storms that came through in 2004. No power or water for 7 days each time.
