I am going to appologize in advance for this rant.
Yesterday, both my wife and daughter renewed prescriptions using Walgreens telephone menu renewal system.
Later in the day Walgreens left two messages that we had prescriptions ready. When I played them back, I couldn't understand a word.
They left these voice mail messages in Spanish!!
I am both angry and insulted. I am incensed. We speak English in this country despite what the liberal socialist government says. Every other national group which came to this country had to learn English to get along. Now we have a population of illegal's who think they are entitled to have everything duplicated in their language.
I don't speak Spanish and I'm not going to learn it.
My wife called them today and told them that if we get one more notification in Spanish we will switch our prescriptions to CVS or Wal-Mart.
I received a request for a contribution the other day from an organization called U.S. English. I have been considering making a contribution. Decision made; money on the way.
I can't say how angry I am that these socialists are screwing up the country I fought for.

Mike, You should try living in Texas.
I think english is the 2nd language here in Central Texas. It is not uncommon for 30% of the customers who walk in daily to speak to me in Spanish. It does frustrate me as well.
Usually I just tell them:
El queso es anciano e mohoso.
Loose translation for you Mike- the cheese is old and moldy. This statement alone usually causes enough confusion to require them to speak english or go away.
And Zundfolge…. we know you understand. Shame on you. LOL

I know how "y'all" feel. My wife and me are finally finishing up a complete remodel of our home. We have done all the work ourselves, except for the roof, concrete driveway and house foundation repair. The, um, inexpensive immigrant labor has driven out most or all the skilled labor here in the Houston area. What a PITA! When we had the roof redone, we had slate shingles installed. We ran the first crew off because they were creating a disaster and none of the workers could speak English. The second crew had a couple workers we could communicate with but were just as incompetent. I think the roofing contractor we hired either broke even or lost his ass, as he had to buy 3 additional crates of slate tiles to replace all the ones the workers had broke, and replace several pieces of copper drip-edge and flashing that came up missing.

In 1919, President Theodore Roosevelt wrote, "We have room for but one language in this country, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding house."
Sounds like TR seen this as an issue almost a century ago! An I for one would have to agree!
