Had an out of town meeting today. 75 miles from work in a small town I had never been to. Meeting was delayed for 2.5 hours, So my co-worker and I had a short lunch.
I noticed there was a gun shop and shooting range across the street. Had time to kill
so we decided to check it out. In their rental gun case were the normal "Tactical Tupperware" guns, Glocks, Springfield XD's etc. I noticed they had 3 revolvers for rent.
2 Ruger GP 100's and a 4 inch fixed barrel stainless Dan Wesson .357. It looked like it had been rode pretty hard in its day. I asked how long had they had this piece. The owner said he got it on a trade around 2000. He had it in the used case for sale for about 6 month's and when his range was built he put it out for rent. He said they run a bore brush through his rental's about every two week's, throw some Rem-oil in the action and that's it. How often do you rent it? I asked. Varies, he said, 2 or 3 times a week. How many rounds have been put through it? Several thousand he said. Ever had any problem's with it? I asked. Only problem is folks that don't know how to open the cylinder. I looked at my co-worker and asked, " Want to have some fun"? ' Sure he said. So we rented the old DW, bought a box of 158 Grain JHP .357's and some targets. 50 rounds later and not one mishap. My co-worker said "Damn you can shoot" Not me, its the gun I said. He said he had never had a better work lunch than that. But after our meeting on the way back home I kept thinking, "Several thousand Rounds" the owner said. And it had been a rental for almost 12 years. I posed the question to this forum a while back. How durable is the action on a DW? And I got my answer. Just had to share it.
