Just wanted to pass this on to others to help you avoid a possible unhappy situation.
I bought a 715VH6 on gunbroker. Fortunately the seller was a gun shop and accepted Visa without any additional charge. I paid for the gun and it was shipped via USPS Priority, insured & tracked. The gun was being shipped to a local FFL just up the road from me. He is an individual who run estate sales and has no retail joint. The problem with this situation is that the postal carrier (how's that for being PC?) attempted to deliver but since the FFL was at an estate sale could not sign for the gun. That was yesterday (Friday). He is finishing the estate sale today so won't be able to get the gun until...argh...Tuesday (Monday is Columbus Day and the Post Office is closed). So I should have received the gun yesterday but will have to wait until Tuesday.
My main concern is that is may grow legs while in the Post Office. Yup, I don't trust them. I'll be really upset if it is missing.
Luckily, I didn't need it over the weekend but I'm a little disappointed in the process. On a positive note he only charges $25 including the state fee of $10 (to make sure I'm not a criminal).
If you buy a gun and need to get it in your hands ASAP be sure the FFL has a store front with someone available to sign for shipments.
Thanks to all who have served our great country! Give till it hurts...they did!

I don't see any risk there. The gun is insured with a signature required and you know where it is at. No one knows what is in the box other than you. The good thing is that the seller did ship it with a signature required. If he hadn't (which is what some people do to try to save $2.25), the postal carrier would have left it on the FFL's doorstep and then you would have had some risk of it getting lost or stolen. I see the FFL is charging you $25 which includes the $10 background check, so he's charging $15 for his service which is about half (at least) of what a storefront would normally charge. An extra $15 doesn't sound like much but if you bring in a lot of guns, it adds up. But to your point, yes, if you want to make sure that the shipment doesn't get missed then you'll need to pay the extra $ and use a storefront FFL. I wouldn't be losing any sleep over it - I suspect you're just anxious to get your hands on your new toy.

I agree with everything you write Harly except the risk of having to find the same gun again should it be "lost" in shipping. I bought it specifically to use as my son's backup gun for deer / bear hunting at the end of this month. Additionally, I have already invested in a Pachmayr Presentation grip and a custom holster. If Dan doesn't show up I'll have plenty to be upset about. The fee of this FFL is surely a bargain and I always offer to pay for full insurance and tracking. My only hang up is trusting the post office. After all, they are human and therefore flawed. Hopefully nobody will have the urge to go postal with my Dan.
