For the past several years I have bored you all with my annual assault on LEAVES. Our yard is surrounded with trees and every year is a huge project with moving them to the curb for city pick up.

This year I called in backup:

freerider04 (Andrew) going "Two Gun" on the leaves:

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve:

We have 7 Maple trees in our back yard.  It takes my wife and I at least 12-14 hours to clean up the ankle-deep crud.  We fill more than 60 yard-waste bags every year.

I feel your pain.

Steve,

That is impressive that you have a son who helps! I have 3 kids 2 of which Still live with me and we can barely get them to close the door and turn the lights out behind them let alone help out.

You done good with Freerider, he grew up right

All we have to do is get them to the curb wink

We have two great kids, most of it was luck, but there were requirements as they were growing up:

1) Music started in elementary school and was required throughout high school. We did private lessons as needed. Katie was a soloist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in her Senior year, and had a master class with James Galway.

2) Once in high school, do a sport. Don't have to be a star, but you will participate.

3) Have a job. Half of what you earn is yours to spend, half goes in a savings account.

Both were US Naval Sea Cadets http://www.seacadets.org/ . Learned about discipline and commitment very early in life.  Andrew did training on Coast Guard cutters, Naval Air Stations, submarines, etc. He did delayed enlistment halfway through his Senior year of High School.

In spite of anything else life serves up, my wife and I are very lucky people

Thanks for enduring the rant of a proud Dad

Mulching blade on the mower or a bagger to collect and put them in beds works for me . Gave up raking. Blowing is good. Getting out into the country works better.

I went whole-hog and bought a gas powered leaf vac. It mulchs and catches in a cloth bag, also self-propelled. Worth every penny. Makes great yard mulch.
