Been looking, asking questions and such.  Came across this DW and thought I might enlist some discussion about the gun.  I couldn't afford this one, but is sure looks bright and shiny.

They are WAY high on that one.  Commemoratives came in two grades--two tone, and solid gold plate. The solid ones went for around $1800 new, if I remember correctly the two tone was around $1200 (god, I gotta find that article!)

Well, technically the whole idea behind the "special edition collector's guns" is that hopefully their value appreciates over time. Now, I'm not saying that each one of them do eventually go up in value, but most do seem to at least hold their value, if they haven't been fondled to death.

I agree, this one is priced high. There's three of the "animal" editions that have been languishing on GB for a while, that are around $1800. To me, that seems like a more reasonable price...but I'd still try to hold out for something cheaper.Wink

I think my local pusher (oh, I mean gun dealer) has a Second Amendment high gloss blue commemorative for around $800 I think...

Way too much money for a safe queen.

Jody, you ought to get on that $800 gun; it sure sounds like GTDW to me.

I feel kind of the same way about Safe Queens. If I bought that gun for any amount of money, I would not want to shoot it, and I shoot them all. There is a place for collectors who buy and not shoot, I don't think that DWF has anyone like that, but people who buy and preserve are important too.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I sorta have some safe queens. I haven't shot the twins (Model 12's) yet, nor the D11. That may change this coming year, I'm undecided...but for now, they remain unfired for 40 years.Surprised

I happened to find this one on GunBroker.com.  Thought it is one of the prettiest revolvers I've ever seen.

I agree, that one's a beauty.Drool I also like how it's got some "other stuff" in the engraving, like the eagle & minuteman. For what it is & the fast that it's engraved on both sides (as opposed to only one, like some are), the price isn't half bad.

The only bummer...I'd feel really guilty if I ever shot it.

Not nearly as ornate as the examples earlier in this thread, I have a NRA lazer etched commerative DW 44 mag in SS. Were these factory etched or done elsewhere by the local NRA chapters?

I don't have the answer to that.  Do you have any pics, I would really like to see that.  Thanks

Most of the Commemoratives were done by The American Historical Foundation out of Richmond Virginia.
