I know it's been awhile since I have posted anything so first.... Hello everyone.
Although I have purchased a lot of my Dan's via GB I have never listed/sold on GB. A few weeks ago I was looking through and thought maybe it's time to thin a few out, duplicates, odd, hard to find, those types.
Since I had never listed on GB I decided to test the waters and do what I thought was a " Basic" listing. Obviously that did not prove any positive results, my listing received 13 views. When I tried to do a basic search as a buyer it was hard to find and buried among the listings.
I was hoping someone could offer some advise as to how to get the most out of a listing.
Thanks in advance.
I am keen to hear the advice. I want to thin the herd too and have only bought. The right search words are needed I think. RARE seems to be de RIGOUR (just kidding unless true) . I also think you can pay more for featured placement. Also, an unreasonable starting price and folks won't look. Reasonable is starting at a penny. Lol. Seriously, even starting at a reasonable price means most folk will skip over it. Buyers have to percieve the possibility of a good deal. JMHO.
I'm behind you 100 percent Ole Dog, and feel the same. When I listed the second time I did place it in the " Featured placement", It helped but not much. I'm beginning to think that I need to just hit ALL the "add on" enhancement features and see what happens. However that can get pricey. I see some listings and see that they can have up to 3-400 views, me on the other hand get like 14....I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong. Also it's not like I'm listing an average 357 Mag.
Greetings. I'm not telling yo what to do, but, I have one forum friend that only sells using penny auctions. Might want to see if you can find any of these and follow. eBay has one feature I really like when looking/selling stuff, one can look at closed auctions and find the average price for sold items alike. I don't see this feature on gun broker or GunsAmerica....it would really help.
If you're going to drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

GB does have this feature ... when doing a search, click the completed tab first, but you have to be signed in.

Good pictures and reasonable starting price.
I have mine listed on there right now, and it's not a very in demand .22lr. I'm happy with how it is going right now, I started the price at $450, and It is at $560 with 4 bids over 2 days, and 29 watchers. My goal is a sale price of $650, and I think I'll get close to it. It's actually the first gun I've sold period.

Thank you and yes they do have that feature on GB...This particular model does not come up very often. As a matter of fact I think I have only seen it twice on GB and there is a thread about here... It's the Virginia Revenuer, just to answer "drides" question. I am not advertising as I know this is not the proper thread however just letting it known that it's not exactly common.
My problem isn't price or description, I think I covered those two pretty good. My problem is I'm not an expert selling on GB and I'm not exactly sure what featured listing tools I should use in order to get the most exposure. Both times I have listed it, it seems to appear on like the 40th page or something like that. I guess I have tried to list it the most economical way (Cheap) and I need to maybe give a little more to GB

I found a listing that was on GB but did not sell as it did not meet the reserve. Not sure what they are worth.

May I ask what type of listing features ( to make it stand out ) that you used?
I don't want to sound arrogant but,
1) I don't even look at guns with a reserve anymore. A reserve means no deals here. Set the starting price as a reserve. If you really want to sell a gun start at a penny.
2) I am confused about 40 pages of listings. I narrow the search to Revolvers, then to Dan Wessons only( no Smiths thank you. If I wanted to search S&W I would do that. ) recently there have been between 110 and 120. 40 or so are new, overpriced 715s. Most of the others are overpriced to start, have reserves that are probably too high, or have just a few bad pictures.
3) You need to show the recoil shield, top strap, sideplate, and all other parts of the gun.
There are usually only about 10 real auctions of interest. My qualifications, I have 176 transactions, all as a buyer, on Gunbroker.
Lastly, I try to avoid bidding wars, especially if a Newbie is bidding.

Ole Dog's comments display a measurable amount of wisdom. I will respond to his comments in order, and no, he isn't being arrogant!!
1) Same here. The value of a particular firearm can vary week to week. If you really want to sell it for whatever reason, you must assume that risk and list a no reserve auction.
2) I do exactly what he does and see exactly what he sees. More often than not, there is nothing in my wheelhouse. Most are overpriced for what they are or condition is inferior.
3) Show the parts he mentions. There are also templates available to supply the respective bidder large, very detailed pics so they can be more confident of exactly what the condition is of whatever particular firearm they are bidding on. Don't use a cellphone. Use a high quality digital camera with scrollable large pics after a detailed listing of the condition of the gun. Always note any detractions. The potential buyer will appreciate your honesty and look more favorably at your listing. I quit selling years ago, but I do know as Ole Dog does, what will drive him to put top dollar in a firearm. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you sir,
And no, not being arrogant! I welcome the advise. I'm going to revamp a few things including pics and see what happens. Honestly I don't "Need to Sell" It's more of a timing thing I guess. I'm sure you can understand, life, duplicates and just thinning out.
Thanks again.

Interesting and makes sense seeing what I have seen.
Understood, and thank you!

Just a thought, but have you considered listing your items on the DWF first before listing on Gunbroker? Might be cool to offer items to die-hard Dan Wesson enthusiasts. Personally, I'd be interested in 15-2s, especially a Pistol Pack, and 44s, especially ones with compensated barrels.
Cheers!

I have thought about that Scott, I'll have to see where this goes since I have since relisted it.
Yeah, I get it.
I've never listed anything on Gunbroker, so not sure how it works, but I have sold a lot on eBay and I know that keywords can be crucial for the listing to get seen far and wide. I'll use manufactures with similar items in keywords, that way my listing will show even if someone is looking for a similar but different brand. But, again, not how sure that applies to Gunbroker.
I definitely agree that the more pictures the better. Also agree that a lot of buyers are put off by auctions with a reserve. As stated above, just set the starting bid at the lowest price you'd take. Also, I've found that "buy it now" can be an appealing feature. Some people want instant gratification or are looking for something specific that they don't want to have to wait for. Lots of impulse buyers too. Also, you can put things in your auction like "no credit card fees" and "free shipping." All of this stuff is appealing to potential buyers.
Anyway, good luck. Hope it turns out well for you.
