I am far from an expert (has been drip under pressure) on the subject, but my experience with log outs is this:
When using a public computer at a hotel lobby, I logged into my bank account. When done I didn't log out. As a result, the computers memory retained that login information and when I re-entered my bank account during the same session, it came up without logging in.

i never use public computers, and I never log out at home. Once a week my computer logs out of everything as part of a full system scan, automatice update, defrag, and restart.
BTW- Antivirus (I use Kaspersky and it's great) does not protect from malware. I use the free version of Malwarebytes

I'm considering upgrading to the paid version, my weekly scan for malware almost always catches something.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I knew what you meant, but thought I would share an experience I had which BTW surprised me very much. Now that same scenerio can apply to your home computer, agreed it is remote that anything devious would happen at home, but you never know. For example, I bought a gun safe because I knew my son's devious friend from down the street (you know, the curious one that likes anything that goes bang), and I sleep very well knowing I logged off and locked up my firearms.
Now the kids are all grown up and the curious kid down the street works for New England Mechanical and has experience guiding hunters in Colorado. Yes, he still likes things that go bang.
