One way to offset that shipping cost is to buy more stuff. The last order I made with DW Norwich was several years ago. I've already used one cylinder stop, three spring kits, and four grip screws. I still have two small frame spring kits, an extra 15-2 cylinder stop, and six grip screws in both sizes, it all shipped in one package for the basic shipping cost.
Stuff I need (or I will need for a DWF Brother).
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I made a few last month. I had one that was pretty worn in one of my shooters.
I took a piece (3" or so) of .055 steel music wire (hobby shop stuff, $1.50 for 3 feet)). Heated it and bent it around the right sized drill bit butt end (mic the crane for size). I tapped it lightly while hot with a very small hammer to get the right radius. Snipped and filed the ends for length. Hold it in a small vise for this. Works fine and the fit is snug. We'll see how long it lasts.
It's a 10 minute job.
