Maybe I should start a Day Off Blog. Me and the Boyz went shooting today, they fully dominated 250 rounds of "consumables"

On the left is my Springfield Commander project gun, on the right is the DW PM1-S (and before either my brother or son start with snarky questions, Yes-they both got cleaned after this picture was taken). In the center is the casket for the days remains. Including some other ammo laying around, about 400 rounds went downrange today, and this is the VERY FIRST TIME I have not taken a .357 to the range with me, ever. Just these two guys, and what a great 1911 day it was!

The PM1-S is easily the more accurate of the two and always will be, it was built to shoot one ragged hole, and when I do my part, it does. I finally have a definitive answer on how I feel about 2 piece FLGR's, more on that in the 1911 Forum. The Springfield is a tapered barrel, no bushing 1911, much less finely fitted.

The Springer was a very inexpensive item for me, and so far has 3 upgrades (there is more planned on this gun, stay tuned):

1) The correct height front sight to match the rear adjustable. I had the slide milled to accept a Novak front, lots of options there

2) Grips that were a Birthday gift from my son several years ago

3) An EGW SS FLGR and reverse plug to replace the ridiculous "barbell" type Guide Rod that was original

The biggest adjustment for me was going from a long 7.5#, slightly gritty trigger to the short 3.5# "breaking glass" trigger (guess which is which). I'm also shocked at the difference in feel between both guns. The Springfield is an alloy framed 4", weighing in at 32 oz, the DW is a Stainless full size model weighing in at 40 oz. It is incredible how differently they balance and feel with just a half pound difference in weight. The full size soaks up 230 gr hardball with ease, I am definitely going to have to find a load for something in a 185 gr for the lighter gun.

At any rate, everyone had fun, and I completed another project today, turning 400 rounds of factory ammo into brass. And since my brother recently sent me a very nice ultrasonic cleaner, I can compare that with tumble cleaning.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Stop it!  I'm getting closer and closer to retiring and not even looking for a job, because of posts llike this...  glad you could do it though!

Steve, sounds like a day of all the good that a guy can take! Well most of the good things!  Thanks for sharing!

I left this thing up and on all day and saw this when I came into DWF

Good thing, otherwise youu son and I would have had to institute firearm confiscation proceedings based on unfit parenting due to poor caliber hygine! yell

Glad you had a good day.

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

Sounds like a great day!  Once the weather gets a little nicer here sounds like something I need to do!
