My wife and I got married in 2006. We had been dating since 2001. So this Christmas my father in-law presents me with a gift, of something I never knew he had. He is really into physical fitness and is generally very active. Some of his favorite activities are water sports, wind surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. Apparently one day while windsurfing in the Potomac (in-laws live close to DC) he looked down and found a gun in the water. He'd been keeping the gun in a box up in the attic since. Well, he gave it to me today - it's a fairly rough Dan Wesson model 15.
Sorry for the mirror image...
The front sight is pinned on. The grip is a nondescript plain wood with a simple small stylized W medallion (missing on one side). There is a large amount of pitting on the frame and barrel shroud. My father in-law did clean the gun up as best he could. But he was unaware that the shroud and barrel can be easily removed. So it will be interesting to see if they will come off, as who knows how long this thing sat in the water.

Gun dump? Or lost in a boating accident, or while hunting, hiking?
It's quite possible the gun was stolen and/or used to commit a crime. My father in-law found it back in the early 90's, so turning it over to the popo now probably wouldn't result in anything positive.

The action works, though the hammer sometimes will not lock back. I need to check the grip screw length. It is a project, i'll tear it down and do a full clean and lube. Probably should order up a parts kit from EWK. I may leave the finish as is, makes for a nice truck gun.

Wow, that is really cool of him to give you that!
You have an early 15-2...late '75 to early '76, just prior to when they introduced the interchangeable front sights. The grips are not wood, they are plastic, called "Powerwood". Love the mirror image.
Show us more when you get it apart!
